🤝 After a very successful trip to the Sri Lankan International Insurance Congress, our VP of Business Development Asia, Henry Wong, travels for another speaking engagement to the Vietnam Actuarial Conference on Thursday (29 November) in Saigon. DM him up for a coffee and a chat!
I was very fortunate to be among insurance industry leaders in Colombo, Sri Lanka this week, vibing to the new political beat. As a casual observer, I believe Sri Lanka is poised to start turning things around soon. Despite the country's economic challenges and protection penetration rate of 1.1%, industry giants I met at the event stood united and determined in making protection more accessible and appealing. There was an undeniable sense of togetherness and consensus in striving for better results by challenging the status quo and embracing innovations. Speaking of the event, Sri Lanka Insurance Institute (SLII) smashed it again this year with another well curated list of topics and keynote speakers. An impressive 600 local insurance professionals, CEOs, regulators and politicians attended the 21st instalment of the SLII's International Insurance Congress, coming together to network, exchange ideas and be inspired under the conference motto "Braving the Storm, in a Challenging Environment". I want acknowledge my fellow panel speaker and panellists: - Mahaveer Chandiwala (Chief Underwriting Officer, Munich RE) - Chandana L. Aluthgama Aluthgama (Group CEO, Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation) - Dharana Korale Arachchi (Chief Manager - Marketing, National Development Bank) - Amal Dharmapriya (Chief Information Officer, Softlogic Life) ... for sharing the WHATs and WHYs of a digital-first mindset following the insightful presentation by Mahaveer Chandiwala. I was reminded of a brief survey I did with an audience of about 300 senior stakeholders in HK about 18 months ago. When I asked them to type ONE word that represented the main obstacle to digital transformation in their respective organizations, a majority came back with #CULTURE. Many pointers were shared and I'll briefly summarize them in my own words. With innovations outpacing our ability to learn at the individual level, the importance of getting experts to collaborate efficiently across functional lines is greater than before. I likened this to the impetus for teamwork among F1 pit crews members where individual and collective performances would influence the outcome of a race. Lastly, I want to thank Udeni Kiridena, CEO of SLII, for the invitation and Manura Perera for the support and for making Sri Lanka a 2nd home to me. Truly inspired to know your aspirations for the industry and honoured to be playing a tiny part in your plans. #BetterTogether #insurtech #insurance #underwriting #digitaltransformation Srinivas Rao Munich Re Automation Solutions Ltd

🤝 Yesterday's All Hands Day at our Leopardstown, Dublin HQ was probably the most action packed of the year with a Diwali quiz, our monthly Town Hall and a pension presentation liberally sprinkled among the year-end planning meetings and always welcome face-to-face catch ups. ❄️The cold and frosty Irish weather was tempered satisfyingly with lots of exotic sweet treats and our quizzers had a lot of fun (judging by the buzz generated!). Thankfully there was plenty left over to satisfy the masses for the Town Hall demo of our new software UX, ending on a high note which resonated strongly with one of our key Culture Principles: Better Together. 🎅 Next up the Christmas party and all things festive! #LifeInsurance #Underwriting #Insurtech #BetterTogeteher #Diwali

👉 Catch our VP of Business Development Asia, Henry Wong, on the latest stop of his Asian conference tour at the 21st International Insurance Congress in Sri Lanka on Tuesday 19 Nov 2024. He'll tell you all about his fantastic panel discussion at the Thai InsurTech Summit last week!
Under the #InsurtechSummit2024 slogan "Shaping Insurance, Building Community", His Excellency Secretary-General Mr. Chuchatr Pramoolpol addressed a few important points in his opening keynote speech. Among them was a call to action to overcome the inertia and to explore innovative solutions that would drive the insurance industry in Thailand to new heights while staying vigilant on the PDPA front. I echo his sentiment on how state-of-the-art technologies could at times come across sounding like a foreign language. And I couldn't agree more with his urging to collaborate. Technology is simply outpacing our individual abilities to understand it all. IMHO, the business case for most insurers to build advanced solutions in-house is diminishing by the day. I want to thank my fellow panelists (Harprem Doowa and Jan Willem van Walsum) and modedator (Cyrus C.) for a lively and meaningful dialogue on #bigdata. Key takeaways: 1. Avoid paralysis by analysis. Start with a smaller and defined scope of issues to solve, considering challenges in securing budget and buy-ins from executive sponsors. 2. Data by itself has little intrinsic value; Strategy, planning and efforts are required to extract value. 3. Don't go at it alone; Collaborate with insuretech partners to leapfrog steep and expensive learning curves. Again, a huge thanks to the team at Center of InsurTech Thailand, Renee Thavichaigarn, Metha Mungsri and K. Poppy! Also, a special shoutout to Tricia Wong for her relentless promotion of insurtech with or without ITC Asia banner. #insurtech #insurance #underwriting Munich Re Automation Solutions Ltd

📣 Ahead of Henry Wong's visit to the 21st International Insurance Congress in Sri Lanka on Tuesday 19 Nov 2024 you can watch his latest video on digital transformation in insurance below.
We could see an uptick in transformation activities in the near future despite market headwinds. Most of the L&H insurers I spoke to this year have plans to upgrade, modernize or add new "enablers" in the next 3-6 months. Exciting times! Check out the video and read more here … https://lnkd.in/gC8eTK25 Meanwhile, see you all at the 21st International Insurance Congress in Sri Lanka on Tuesday 19 Nov 2024. #LifeInsurance #Underwriting #Insurtech Munich Re Automation Solutions Ltd
