  • It was brilliant to attend the launch of Cuan, DSGBV Agency awareness campaign earlier, which is survivor-centered and highlights the widespread occurrence of violence against women. Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan TD spoke how we must tackle elements of our culture which foster male violence and that boys need to be taught that control has no place in human relationships. Centering survivor's voices and their lived experiences is critical to any strategy to combat violence against women.

  • Congratulations to Cuan, DSGBV Agency as they launch their first public awareness campaign. It's critical that the epidemic of violence against women is tackled and we create a zero tolerance society. We look forward to working with Cuan to address violence against women and deliver what every woman and girl is entitled to: safety and security.

Today marks the launch of our Hardest Stories Campaign. From Oscar Wilde to Edna O’Brien, we pride ourselves on being a nation of storytellers. But there are some stories no one should have to tell. Stories of harassment, abuse, rape; stories of violence.   These stories are hidden in plain sight across our country, more being created every day and we’re shedding light on them now. Showcasing the humanity behind the statistics and encouraging people to join in stopping these stories.   With this campaign, we aim to shed light on not only particular stories of violence but also the fact that all too many of these stories exist. Let’s stop domestic, sexual and gender-based violence being a part of anyone’s story. For more information, see www.gov.ie/stories https://lnkd.in/gWDUqQCJ

  • "It’s tough to do a four-year professional degree and then face the prospect of earning the minimum wage." Today’s The Irish Times article outlines how childcare graduates are abandoning the sector due to low wages and poor career prospects, despite their passion for early education. Fair pay and prospects for childcare workers is vital for the success and sustainability of the early childhood education and care system. Read more here: https://lght.ly/464n3j

  • "Political leadership needs vision and strategy — not one that is reactionary or that follows the loudest, meanest voice in the room." The German elections saw the far-right party AfD achieve its highest vote share since the 1930s, signalling a significant shift in European politics. Edel McGinley writes in the Irish Examiner about how the rise of the far right across Europe signals an urgent need for strong, progressive leadership to counter hate-driven politics and protect democracy. • On Wednesday we welcomed the new @ICOSirl report which puts a spotlight on the impact of the housing crisis on international students. Along with the latest @ICOSirl report, we encourage you to read our full Sex For Rent Research Report we originally published 2024 with support from @CommunityFoundationIreland. ❗Our report explores the issue of sex for rent (SFR) exploitation in Ireland, highlighting its prevalence, legal gaps, and the vulnerabilities of those targeted—particularly women facing poverty, homelessness, or domestic violence. ⚖️ Sex for rent must be recognised as a form of gender-based violence. The report has calls for legislative action to criminalise these practices, alongside protections and support —aligning with Ireland’s commitments under international conventions and domestic strategies on sexual exploitation and violence against women. 📖 Read the full report here: https://lght.ly/ceoa5d8 #GenderBasedViolence #EndVaw
