Thanks to our #RPL colleagues who gathered yesterday for our #November Project Network Meeting in Technological University Dublin in the beautiful setting of St. Laurence's Church. It was a really insightful day and we had the opportunity to collaborate and take part in some 'hands-on' activities which allowed for deep reflection on RPL, exploring the learners perspectives and needs, as well as those of the institutions and staff. The meeting marked the end of an era as we also said farewell to the excellent Grace Edge who is embarking on an exciting new journey! We extend our gratitude to Grace for her support, leadership and for the enormous achievements and milestones reached throughout the course of the project. Thank you to Una Maguire and Jan Cairns for their assistance and support in facilitating the meeting. #RPL #YourLearningCounts #Collaboration #LifelongLearning #HCIPillar3

🎓 How Can I Use RPL in Higher Education? Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is based on the concept that we all learn everywhere and all of the time. RPL is when a higher education institution recognises what you already know, understand and can do, helping learners to bridge into programmes and leverage the relevant skills and knowledge they have acquired through work experience, informal training, and life experience. Here's how the RPL process can help you: ✅ Gain entry to a higher education programme ✅ Start at an advanced level, like Year 2 or 3 ✅ Receive module exemptions or credit for prior learning RPL values the knowledge and skills you’ve already gained, whether through work, life experience, or previous education. 💡 To learn more, visit our dedicated page to explore how RPL can support your journey: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ePJdTgZY #RPL #YourLearningCounts #LifelongLearning #HCIPillar3 #HigherEducation

It was a real pleasure to hear all about Helen's #RPL journey at South East Technological University. As a professional individual working in industry, Helen describes the relief she felt in being able to use RPL to access the Master's of Business Administration (MBA) programme at SETU, as the #RPL process allowed her to have her relative prior learning and extensive experience acknowledged: "It was great to look at my life’s work, not just as something I did, but as something that is invaluably informative and educational. The knowledge that you’ll bring into the classroom, the case studies that you can share with peers...it can’t be replaced.” If Helen's story resonates with you as someone who would like to explore the options that may be available to you via the RPL process, reach out to: rplhub@setu.ie or visit SETU's dedicated #RPL page here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eFTikZd6 #YourLearningCounts #SETU #LifelongLearning #HCIPillar3 Deirdre Harkin
Helen Meaney, Project Manager, achieved her Master of Business Administration (MBA) at SETU through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway. Helen’s extensive career in project management across all areas of business operations generated great professional success. However, there was one area, that of higher education, that Helen felt she had yet to conquer. #SETU Read the full story below: https://lnkd.in/efUPu5ja

MU Postgraduate Studies taught Masters scholarships are helping to widen participation by acknowledging the value of prior learning, creating opportunities for individuals who bring unique, real-world expertise to their studies. By recognising the value of Prior Learning, initiatives like this are opening doors for remarkable individuals like Lutea, whose experiences enrich the academic environment. 👏 #RPL #YourLearningCounts #LifelongLearning #PostgraduateStudies Carol Lynch

One of the great things about Recognition of Prior Learning is the diversity of industries represented by its learners. From entrepreneurs and creatives to professionals in business, aviation, leadership, and beyond, #RPL attracts individuals from many different areas of the workforce. Despite their varied backgrounds and career paths, there’s one common thread that unites them all - the confidence they gain through the RPL process. By recognising and valuing their hard-earned skills and experiences, RPL opens doors to new opportunities and helps to empower learners with a renewed belief in their abilities. Throughout #November, and especially during College Awareness Week (18–24 November), a number of our partner institutions across the country will host events and activities to showcase the potential of RPL as a pathway to and through higher education. If you're ready to explore how your skills and experiences can be transformed into formal qualifications, this is the perfect time to start your journey. Keep an eye out for events near you and take the next step toward reaching your potential with RPL. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ez4qcQdH #YourLearningCounts #LifelongLearning #RPL #PriorLearning #CAW2024

It’s always inspiring to see #RPL stories come to the fore! Today, Writing.ie published a piece featuring RPL learner Cathy Power, who used Recognition of Prior Learning to gain entry into a Master’s in Creative Writing at Dublin City University. 🎉 Cathy, a lifelong writer, sought to formalise her skills and achieve a formal qualification. Through RPL, she was able to demonstrate the value of her extensive experience and passion for writing, opening the door to her academic and creative aspirations. In her own words: "I would encourage anyone to go for it. It is daunting to start, but it really gives you confidence when you realise that the skills and experience you have accumulated over the years are worth a lot... I hoped the Master’s would give me confidence and skills to edit my novel and start to send it out for publication." The impact of RPL extends far beyond creative fields and can empower individuals to: ✅ Transition into new careers ✅ Achieve recognition for lifelong learning ✅ Gain entry into higher education programmes Cathy’s story is just one example of how RPL helps to put value on prior learning. 🔗 Read the piece in full here: https://lnkd.in/eMR_xGfY #LifelongLearning #YourLearningCounts #RPL #HCIPillar3 Karina Curley
