About us
We are a national business support agency of the Irish Government, we work with companies of all sizes to identify and develop the talent they need to succeed. #ThinkTalent Our mission is to help businesses in Ireland to be the best they can be, through innovative and enterprise-driven people development. Skillnet Ireland and its 70+ Skillnet Business Networks help prepare over 18,000 businesses and 70,000 workers for the future of work each year. We believe that training and upskilling are key elements in keeping Irish companies competitive. We support groups of companies in the same region/sector and with similar training needs through our Skillnet Business Networks, delivering subsidised training to Irish businesses. Employer needs are addressed through both the preservation and growth of jobs, focusing on skills to maintain businesses and protect jobs as well as the enhancement of new skills to create new jobs. The needs of unemployed people are addressed through activation and conversion by focusing on integrated training with employees and dedicated conversion courses and work placement in areas of employment potential. Our Skills Connect initiative offers individuals the opportunity to develop new skills or reskill, build confidence and access practical on-the-job training. Skillnet Ireland was established in 1999 and is funded from the National Training Fund (NTF) through the Department of Higher and Further Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

“Renewable energy is a growth sector and offshore wind provides interesting opportunities for the Irish workforce and businesses. When we looked at it, we saw that it could grow to employ between 5,000 and 10,000 people directly and in the value chain over the next 10 years. It’s very significant.” said Mark Jordan, Chief Strategy Officer, Skillnet Ireland, in an article in The Irish Times on Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy. This new national initiative, Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy, will provide upskilling that aims to create a pipeline of skilled workers for businesses operating in the emerging offshore wind services sector. This week marks the 10th anniversary of the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science. In 2021, Ireland led the EU in STEM graduates, with 40.3 per 1,000 people aged 20-29—almost double the EU average of 21.9. (CSO.ie/Measuring Ireland's Progress 2022). While a gender gap remains (53.0 male vs. 27.4 female STEM graduates per 1,000), Ireland had the highest female STEM graduate rate in the EU, nearly twice the EU average of 14.8. These figures highlight the growing impact of women in Ireland’s STEM talent pipeline, driving innovation and growth.
