The Tallaght District Heating Scheme (TDHS) is the first large-scale district heating network of its kind in Ireland. It operates under Heat Works, Ireland’s first not-for-profit energy utility, fully owned by South Dublin County Council. The scheme helps to significantly reduce emissions in the area by almost 1,500 tonnes of CO2/year, establishing Tallaght as a leader in local energy action. The scheme delivers a high level of renewable innovation as during normal operation, waste heat from the nearby AWS data centre works to supply 100% of the heat back into the network. Heat Works was a winner of the "Innovative Deployment of Renewable Energy" category at this year's SEAI Energy Awards. Learn more about the finalists ▶ https://bit.ly/3Omtl6i

Today Wednesday 20th of November 2024 is World GIS day. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have been used throughout the world for the last 25 years to solve real-world problems, drive decision making, enhance analysis and it's important to SEAI too. SEAI have created a GIS Story Map, where you can find out about the projects happening across SEAI and examples of previous work completed. The story map will highlight what maps SEAI have created and spatial tools that SEAI offers to the public and policy makers. Read the blog and visit the GIS Story map: https://lnkd.in/e4uyWaAb #WorldGISDay #GIS

Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) reposted this
Congratulations to the winners and nominees at the 21st Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) Energy Awards which we had the pleasure of hosting this weekend to celebrate and recognise energy innovation and leadership in our communities, in business, and in the public sector. The standard of submissions was extremely high and collectively 113 applicants reduced energy consumption by 23% and saved more than €60million on energy spend this year. All the nominees and winners are exemplary trail blazers in their sectors. Their leadership will activate other communities, encourage more citizens, and inspire us as a society to do more towards meeting our energy targets. We are all called on to be implementers and change makers, not passive observers when it comes to delivering our energy transition, and securing the economic, environmental, and health benefits for our country and planet. This year’s top prize, 'Energy Team of the Year' went to the Swords Pavilions Shopping Centre Zero Team and it was a pleasure to present Ian Hunter and Mark Hannigan with their award. The team has implemented several measures that have resulted in a reduction of energy consumption by almost two thirds, 250 less tonnes of CO2 emissions, and a 70% reduction in landlord emissions over the last five years. I also want to pay tribute to John Dolan, the recipient of the SEAI Chair’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Energy. John leads the Climate Action, Planning and Capital Appraisal Unit in the Department of Education — Ireland and for many decades he has been at the forefront of energy performance and decarbonisation in school and education buildings. John is an internationally renowned expert in the field of high-performance new buildings and retrofits and his work not only addresses climate action but has improved the lives of thousands of people who work in and use our public services. Congratulations to all the winners at the 2024 SEAI Energy Awards - together we are moving the dial on Ireland’s clean energy transition.
