Delighted to have been keynote speaker at Hyperlocal to Global: Cultural Hybridity and Translation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence at the American University of Sharjah last week. I reconnected with old friends and made some new ones, including Lubna A. Abdul-Hadi and Aladdin Al-Kharabsheh. Super news that close friend of the Centre, Bullaun Press, a new Irish publishing company specialising in translated literature, currently has a book on the International Booker Prize longlist. The book in question is 'There’s a Monster Behind the Door' by Gaëlle Bélem, translated by Karen Fleetwood and Laëtitia Saint-Loubert. Fingers crossed! Geraldine Brodie organised a field trip to the @Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology (University College London) for students on the MA/MSc module Translation for the Cultural and Heritage Sectors. There, students and tutor used object-based learning to discuss museum labels and conscientious translation.
