UCC Innovation is part of the Vice-President for Research and Innovation's Office. We were established in 2019, building on the Office of Technology Transfer which was launched in 2007 and previously the Industrial Liaison Office which served UCC for almost 25 years.

University College Cork and Tyndall National Institute spin-out shines a new light on augmented reality. Vivid Photonics, a spin-out company from Tyndall National Institute and Irish Photonic Integration Centre, the Research Ireland Centre for Photonics, was launched to a global audience at the Photonics West conference in San Francisco. This innovative spin-out is set to drive advancements in augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies. Vivid Photonics' new technology enhances image quality for lightweight, low-power AR devices like smart glasses creating more seamless and immersive experiences. Great to see INFANT Centre & University College Cork spin-out CergenX featured in Silicon Republic's 10 AI start-ups generating success. CergenX is a MedTech company founded in 2021 from UCC. The company specialises in AI solutions for neonatal brain monitoring and its Wave device aims to enable hospitals to conduct “expert-level” EEG (electroencephalogram) assessments without the need for specialist resources. http://bit.ly/43b9ks7

Last week, Tyndall National Institute and UCC Innovation hosted a Product Development Roadmap workshop. Delivered by eg technology Ltd, the session provided invaluable insights into translating academic and clinical research into real-world products. From navigating key standards to adopting a risk-based approach, participants left with a clear understanding of the path to market for medical devices and lab instrumentation. Last Friday, 16 founders, researchers and commercial leads from University College Cork took part in our first Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) event of 2025. The peer-to-peer sessions that took place on the day provided a collaborative space for sharing insights, challenges, and opportunities of all stages of the commercialisation journey. By connecting Researchers across UCC's pipeline, valuable relationships were fostered and strategic perspectives grew beyond day-to-day research and spin-out concerns.
