🎄WE'RE CELEBRATING OUR UCD SVP 'GENEROSITREE'🎄 Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful students and staff, there were more presents than ever donated to the SVP Annual Gift Collection this year 🤗 . Well done to Dr Mark Coen who organises this really worthwhile initiative every year alongside the UCD SVP society. This year we are especially grateful to the student organisers, Caoimhe Murray (Auditor) and Alison Egan (Vice-Auditor) of the UCD SVP Society 🙌. They did exceptional work not just in the School of Law but across the entire University College Dublin campus! Caoimhe and Alison are pictured with Jake McEntee, chair of the UCD Student Legal Service who ran a bake sale for the cause 👏. And a big shout out to our colleague Oksana Osiniene too for her tireless support and encouragement of the students throughout the last month 🙌 . And in the spirit of the occasion, we would like to extend our very best wishes for the festive season to all of our UCD Sutherland School of Law followers on LinkedIn 🎅 🎄. Wishing you all a happy and peaceful break 💑. UCD Societies, University College Dublin
Last month we were delighted to welcome alumni from the classes of 1984, 1994, 2004 and 2014 to the UCD Sutherland School of Law to celebrate their Milestone Reunions. The event was an opportunity to catch-up, reconnect and enjoy and evening with old friends. For many, it was their first time in the Sutherland Building, which opened in late 2013. Following an opening address from Dean of Law Professor Laurent Pech, alumni broke off into their class groups for more personal conversations, anecdotes and reflections of their time in UCD. We are particularly grateful to the Class Representatives and Class Speakers whose support was instrumental in reaching out to classmates and ensuring such a great turnout and fantastic atmosphere. Their efforts, along with the support of everyone involved made for a memorable evening. You can explore the highlights of the evening here: https://lnkd.in/eqfgjWW4

It is with sadness and pride that we marked the fifth anniversary of the death of our colleague, Paul with the award of the Paul Anthony McDermott Memorial Scholarship to Ms. Sarah Jones, BCL (European), to support her progression to the Barrister-at-Law degree programme at the The Honorable Society of King's Inns, where she is now a student. The scholarship, arranged through the UCD Foundation, was supported by a number of law alumni some of whom were colleagues of Paul's at the Law Library. Pictured with Ms. Jones are Professor Laurent Pech (Dean, UCD Sutherland School of Law) and Senior Counsel Mr. John Trainor SC at an event to celebrate the awarding of the scholarship.
Congratulations Grace T. Oladipo on all of your achievements in 2024 🙌

Our own Professor Laurent Pech was a speaker at the inter-parliamentary meeting on the Rule of Law at the European Parliament yesterday, Commissioner Michael McGrath's first inter-parliamentary meeting on the subject. The Commissioner described the meeting as an exploration of how to strengthen this cornerstone of our democracies and mentioned that the 2025 Rule of Law report will include new dimensions such as a chapter on the Single Market. #ruleoflaw #eulaw

Congratulations Dr Marie-Luce Paris 🙌 Her new book 'Principles of French Constitutional Law' has just been published by Routledge!
Published TODAY! I am thrilled to share the news of the publication of my new book on Principles of French Constitutional Law with Routledge! Nearly a decade in the works, there are so many people to thank as they helped me throughout this journey, including the whole Routledge team Chloe Herbert Emily Kindleysides Sarah Delmas (for their patience and expertise as an excellent publishing house), my wonderful colleagues in UCD Laurent Pech and beyond Maxime Millon for their advice and encouragement, family and friends (for their unwavering support in every aspect…). Last but not least, I owe a deep debt of gratitude to the various cohorts of UCD French Law students—past, present, and future. This monograph offers a concise and accessible account of the key principles and rules of constitutional law in the French legal system, presenting a much-needed up-to-date overview of this rapidly changing subject. Given the growing expansion of this branch of law in the French legal system, this book will be essential reading for anyone studying French Law, Law with French, Comparative Constitutional Law, and European Legal Studies.
