About us

University of Galway IdeasLab fuels creativity, ideas and innovation. Whether meeting new people, developing skills, working to solve global challenges or setting up a business is your aim, IdeasLab is the place to start. IdeasLab is funded through the Higher Education Authority HCI Programme and is the project coordinator for #i2i an EIT HEI funded project focused on building innovation capacity in the region. Supporting you: Enterprise Challenges: Students work with our industry partners to solve real world problems. Participants receive training in team building, design thinking, business modelling, and storytelling. Each team will also visit and receive mentorship from our industry partners - Aerogen, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Mbryonics, Galway International Arts Festival, Veryan, SAP, Rent the Runway and Channel Mechanics. Internship programme: A 10 week, paid internship experience for students in University of Galway. Internships are competitively awarded each semester. Empathy Lab: A physical lab on the UG campus that has empathy tools and frameworks to support students in developing their empathic skills and create human centric solutions to real world problems. Coaching and Mentoring: Mentoring forms part of all programmes within IdeasLab, in addition to being a bookable service for students. Innovation Sandbox: A testing and prototyping environment where the IdeasLab team work with industry to test and validate projects. Start100 Summer Accelerator: The Start100 programme is open to teams of students with an early-stage business idea. Support provided to the teams includes space, funding, mentorship, and access to networks of alumni, partners, and investors.
