A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at yesterday’s NEVO EV Show at the RDS in Dublin. Your energy, enthusiasm, and expertise really brought our Volkswagen Group stands to life. It was inspiring to see so many of you engaging, asking questions, and sharing your thoughts on the future of electric vehicles. Our executive team was delighted to take part in panel discussions covering some of the main topics surrounding EVs. It was a valuable opportunity to address concerns, clarify misconceptions, and discuss the exciting road ahead. Despite some challenges in the EV space in 2024, yesterday’s event has given us confidence that 2025 is shaping up to be a transformative year. The interest, curiosity, and positivity around EVs is palpable, and it’s clear we are all moving in the right direction. Thanks again to Derek Reilly, the NEVO team and everyone who made the day such a success. We’re excited to build a more sustainable future together! #NEVOEVShow #VolkswagenGroup #ElectricVehicles #Sustainability #FutureofDriving Pierre Boutin Alan Bateson Gaspar Alcaide Damien O'Sullivan Raymond Leddy

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our former colleague and friend, Aidan Smith, this past week. Aidan began his career in the motor industry in 1999 with Motor Distributors Limited as a Distribution Assistant. He joined Commercial Vehicles in 2001 as a Sales Coordinator. After over seven years with Motor Distributors Limited, Aidan transitioned to retail, becoming the Audi Brand Manager at Brady’s Motorpark in 2006. In 2009, he rejoined Volkswagen Group Ireland, initially as Planning Manager and then as Product and Planning Manager. From 2014 to 2023, Aidan served as Head of Product and Planning for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, where his extensive experience, passion for the industry, and enthusiasm significantly shaped the brand in Ireland. Aidan was not only a professional of great expertise but also a kind and caring individual. He was always willing to help others with the utmost courtesy. His gentle demeanour and witty sense of humour brought calmness and joy to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Aidan’s wife and family during this difficult time.

The Old Timer facility in Hannover is a veritable treasure trove of Volkswagen bus history. Vehicles range from a Bulli that runs on rails to gloriously restored Samba buses plus fire trucks and ambulances with storied histories. There are priceless one-offs, such as the 1962 T1 Kombi with its outlandish half-track drive system, a 1953 mobile Police speed trap can that issued a fair few tickets in its day and even a campervan made entirely from LEGO. This place lives and breathes automotive history but not all vehicles are deemed suitable for restoration. For example, there’s a somewhat forlorn looking 1951 T1 Panel van that survived a flood and a T1 that ended up being used as a chicken coop! Restoring these vehicles to their original glory misses the point. Hearing some of the many stories behind these much loved vehicles from Christian Schlüter was a real treat. Talk about aircooled heaven!

A huge thank you to Christian Schlüter for coming to Ireland this week and sharing his amazing #BulliLoveStories adventures with staff at our Liffey Valley headquarters. For the past three years, Christian has been spreading the word about the amazing Volkswagen ID. Buzz. It’s a journey that has taken him to 35 countries, chalking up more than 105,000km in a bright yellow ID. Buzz called Big Bird, meeting VW Bus enthusiasts and making friends at every stop. Christian’s passion and enthusiasm are infectious. He is living proof that electric vehicles are capable of long distance travel. He’s even convinced diehard aircooled Bus lovers that an EV can be the perfect, horizon-chasing camper. Thanks again for making the trip to see us Christian. Bon voyage and we hope to see you in Ireland again soon. Slán go fóill
