⚠️ The most common negative experience for children and young people online is encountering cyberbullying or nasty messages. What do teens think needs to be done to tackle this issue? 📻 The Webwise Youth Panel spoke to Eoin Glacken as part of Ireland's Classic Hits Radio series "A Parent’s Guide to Social Media”. ℹ️ The guide for parents and guardians explores the positives and negatives of social media, and aims to give them a better understanding of how the different platforms work and what to watch out for when your children are online. 🎧 Hear more at: https://lnkd.in/eCfrWK-J Coimisiún na Meán

This was a really fun, insightful event and I was delighted to be MC for the day! Huge thanks to Jane McGarrigle of Webwise Ireland for having me, and to Amanda Jolliffe and Microsoft Ireland Dream Space for being such great hosts!
So, Safer Internet Day is over for 2025 🦺. Hotline was delighted to be involved with our colleagues in the The Irish Safer Internet Centre (hotline.ie Webwise Ireland ISPCC and National Parents Council) We worked together to run the day, although if the truth be told, Jane McGarrigle and her team put in the lions share of the work. A big thank you to all the schools and youth organisations who got involved. I hope you had as much fun and learning as we did. We covered the country doing interviews with all the local papers and radio stations and when we finally got to the dream space at Microsoft in Dublin we were ready to roll. There were some very good presentations and talks, all of which gave us more to think about and digest. The highlight for me was the engagement with the young people that were there. Engaging, insightful and passionate (and pesky 😁 ). The future is sound. A massive bualadh bos mór 👏 for Gavan Reilly who was phenomenal and mastered those ceremonies right out the door. Remember that every day at Hotline.ie is a safer internet day. We work report by report to make the world a better place and cannot do it without you, the public and our #members. We take reports of #CSAM, #Fraud, #IIA Intimate Image Abuse, Sexual Extortion and #Xenophobia and #hatespeech and all dealt with it by our dedicated team of analysts. All we need is for you to report. report |remove |resolve - https://lnkd.in/eJTApRXs #saferinternetday #saferinternetday2025 Department of Justice An Garda Síochána INHOPE EU Digital & Tech #ireland #safetytech

The first evaluation of the European Commission BIK+ strategy has been published. In Ireland, the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel contributed to the evaluation, while our Safer Internet Centre colleagues ISPCC conducted consultations with children under 12. The Insafe network of European Safer Internet Centres and other expert organisations facilitated the EU-wide consultations with children and young people. Adopted in May 2022, the European strategy for a better internet for kids (BIK+ strategy) represents the European Union’s commitment to creating a digital environment where children and young people are protected, empowered, and respected online. 🖥️When 1 in 3 internet users worldwide is a child, companies shouldn't be allowed to design platforms and services that ignore children's rights and wellbeing. Yesterday, as part of #SaferInternetDay, our EU Advocacy and Policy Officer, Manon Baert, spoke at Webwise Ireland 's #PrepareProtectThrive event, making the case for safety by design. The digital world is 100% engineered, it could be anything. Rather than serving companies' profit, let's design it to be safe for children to explore and thrive. To do that, we need safety by design. #SID2025 #SafetyByDesign
