When you work in internal comms (and finally take a holiday) IYKYK 😎 Internal comms life: You get LOTS of requests. You also have a very small team. The good news? You can have a BIG impact ✨ IF... You can avoid getting trapped in what we call "the tactical quicksand" Our latest data shows that: Only 15% of IC teams focus on true strategic work. So... How can you fix that? 📌 Try THIS new playbook 1. Track your time ruthlessly - Document every hour spent on projects - Measure against your key business outcomes - Build data for resource discussions 2. Create clear service tiers - Gold: Company wide strategic initiatives - Silver: Regional / functional priorities - Bronze: Day to day tactical support Set expectations at every level with your leadership. When you get stuck in the weeds from their asks? SHOW them when / where it happened. 3. Pool your resources strategically - Stop the "dedicated partner" model - Build collaborative team structures - Focus collective energy on priorities Because here's what executives really care about: 1. How does this scale across the organization? 2. How are you enabling business strategy? 3. What measurable impact are you driving? 4. Where are resources being invested? That's how you move from: "We need more resources" to... "Here's our strategic impact" 👋 P.S. Tag someone who this made you think of ;)

👀 I've got a secret weapon I use to manage my workload that helps me stay calm and focus on the important stuff. I mean, I kind of need to, because I run a very successful one-person business by myself - no assistant, no team, just me and the cat in my home office. And I spent many years working as an internal comms team-of-one. I know what it's like trying to juggle it all and win (without burning out). It's hard!! I'm spilling my secrets in this free masterclass on managing your busy comms workload on 5th March in partnership with Workvivo by Zoom. I'll show you the framework I use to be so effective in my work. I'll explain how it works, we'll complete it live together on the call and I'll give you a downloadable template so you can use it again and again. 🚨 Click "FREE masterclass - click here" on my page to sign up.

Vamos juntos fazer a diferença! 💬📲

Real leaders absorb pressure ✋ They don't amplify it. Why? Your frontline workers power your company. You need to keep them engaged, informed, and valued. NOT feeling a firehose of 24/7 pressure. 🧵 The data is clear... - 82% of employees quit because of bad managers - 43% believe management doesn't tell the truth - 64% say trust decreases after restructuring What do frontline workers want? Pressure shields. ✅ 3 ways you can protect your frontline teams 1️⃣ Filter out unnecessary stress The motto is simple: "Share what's needed, shield what isn't" This keeps your frontline teams focused on what matters. (And gives them psychological safety at work) 2️⃣ Communicate with real talk No corporate jargon here. Your frontline teams are busy. They just want the clear, honest facts. 3️⃣ Stay human when things get hard When things are changing fast at work? And things are a little crazy? - Show genuine empathy - Listen more than you speak - Stand between chaos and your team Your role as a leader is to SHIELD them. So they can stay focused on what they do best. Serving. Your. Customers. 📌 Remember: Your job isn't to pass pressure down. It's to absorb it, process it, and turn it into clear direction. Because when leaders shield their teams from unnecessary pressure? Engagement increases 76% THAT'S how you earn trust with your frontline teams. -- 👋 P.S. What else would you add? Let us know below!

Your frontline teams want REAL TALK. Stanford research shows you why 👇 📌 STANFORD RESEARCH DATA: Complex communication hurts engagement. Stanford research shows our brains actually encode and remember structured, simple information better than elaborate messaging. This is what your frontline workers want. They're busy serving your customers. So make things SIMPLE and CLEAR. BAD EXAMPLE ❌ "We need to circle back with more customer-first synergy to address the increasingly challenging consumer landscape this quarter. How will we combat this situation?" VS ✅ GOOD EXAMPLE 1️⃣ WHAT "Here are the facts..." → Share what happened → Define the situation → Present key information Example: "Our customer satisfaction scores dropped 10% this quarter." 2️⃣ SO WHAT "This matters because..." → Explain the implications → Share why anyone should care → Connect to your audience Example: "This puts our annual targets at risk which is the metric that determine's our team's end of year performance bonus." 3️⃣ NOW WHAT "Here's the path forward..." → Outline specific actions → Define clear next steps → Set expectations Example: "Please review customer feedback by Friday and reply with your action plan with 1-2 ways we can address it. Thank you!" 📌 Why this works: 1. Makes information more memorable 2. Guides listeners through your logic 3. Brings immediate clarity to complex topics And does it in a FAST way that's easy to understand. So your frontline workers can focus on their jobs. Not deciphering your corporate speak... Skip the jargon. Get to the simple facts. And plz stop saying "synergy" 😉 Sincerely, Frontline workers everywhere -- 👋 P.S. What's the worst corporate jargon you've heard?

What do frontline workers want? Appreciation ✨ 📌 3 examples from companies who get this right 1️⃣ Airbnb does "small" gestures well Airbnb has created a culture where appreciation is woven into daily life. From spontaneous recognition to structured events, Airbnb ensures every employee feels valued. Ideas come from LISTENING to their employees. Things like: - Handwritten notes from managers - Regular 1:1 "thank yous" - Pop up celebrations 4️⃣ Disney goes the extra mile (with storytelling) Disney brings its storytelling magic to employee recognition. They've created a recognition program that's distinctly "Disney," making employees feel like they're part of something special. Some of their most appreciated forms of recognition: - Unique perks (like sunrise yoga at Cinderella's Castle) - Digital platform for recognition notes - Special pins and service awards 5️⃣ Ryanair brings a zesty approach to real-time comms Ryanair understands that in a fast-paced industry, appreciation needs to be just as quick. Their platform allows for instant recognition, keeping their widespread team connected and motivated. They make it EASY for their global teams. - Mobile platform for news and recognition - Feedback polls to measure cultural goals (All with a twist of Ryanair's famous brand of humor) Do you have a system of appreciation today? If not... 👀 Ask yourself: 1. Is your leadership inspiring greatness through appreciation? 2. How can you make recognition a core part of your culture? 3. Are you empowering everyone to show appreciation? 💜 People who feel truly valued will always go the extra mile. -- 👋 P.S. What makes you feel appreciated?

Small Internal Comms team? 👋 5 tips to make a BIG impact: Internal Comms (IC) teams are often stretched thin—but that doesn’t mean they can’t be powerful drivers of business success. If you’re running lean, here’s how to maximize your impact: 1. Get Strategic –Focus on comms that support key business priorities. If you’re unsure what they are, ask leadership. IC isn’t just about messaging—it’s about driving business results. 2. Set Boundaries – Service Level Agreements (SLAs) help prioritize where your team’s time goes. Not every request is urgent, and not every leader needs a dedicated comms person. Define gold, silver, and bronze service levels to manage expectations. 3. Ditch Business Partnering (or Limit It) – Spreading IC pros across functions weakens impact. Instead, pool resources, collaborate, and focus on high-value initiatives that benefit the whole business. 4. Leverage AI – Automate repetitive tasks, generate content ideas, and free up time for strategic thinking. AI won’t replace IC pros—it will empower them. 5. Track Your Time – Want more resources? Show leadership where IC’s time goes. Data-backed insights help make the case for more investment. Lean IC teams can still drive massive results. How do you make the most of limited IC resources? ⬇️ 💡 Simon Rutter

"What do employees REALLY want?" It's not pizza 👇 Let’s look at the data: 1️⃣ Being VALUED during meetings A study by Harvard Business Review found that 71% of senior managers view meetings as unproductive and inefficient. However, employees don’t hate meetings... They hate BAD meetings. Multiples studies have shown that GOOD meetings can fuel people. Ex: employees value meetings where their input is heard, decisions are made collaboratively, and there’s a clear purpose. 85% feel motivated when their ideas are acknowledged in meetings. 2️⃣ Feeling TRUSTED According to the latest Edelman Trust Barometer report, only 62% of employees trust their employers. Trust is a cornerstone of engagement. In high-trust organizations? Employees report: 74% less stress Up to 50% higher productivity And a massive increase in energy (106% more) Trust is built through transparency, autonomy, and respect. 3️⃣ Having a VOICE at work Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace report revealed that only 23% of employees feel engaged at work. One of the key drivers of engagement? Having a voice. When employees feel heard? They're 4.6 times more likely to feel empowered. And do their BEST work. 👋 P.S. What else would you add?
