The ‘Learning Collaborative’ event in the Department of Health - Ireland Tuesday 12th November was a day filled with insightful discussions on initiatives using cutting edge remote health monitoring technologies to support the care of patients with chronic conditions from where they call home; demonstrating the progress we’re making towards the goals set out in the Health Service Executive Digital for Care 2030 Framework. Each session brought a unique perspective, showing how we’re improving patient outcomes, streamlining care, and supporting our healthcare teams. Some takeaways from the Learning Collaborative included: ➡️ Meabh Smith & @Conor Kennedy PHD set the tone for the event by sharing how the programme of remote health monitoring ‘Seedling’ initiatives are providing safer, more accessible, and effective digital healthcare solutions. ➡️ Prof. Donal Sexton highlighted the impactful work in renal care at St. James’s Hospital, focusing on how advancements in nephrology are enhancing patient experiences. ➡️ @Sorcha McManus discussed innovative approaches in supporting oncology and stroke care at St. James’s Hospital, emphasising the role of health and social care professionals deploying technology in driving better outcomes. ➡️ Dr. Cathy Monteith and Kelly Delaney shared their expertise on blood pressure monitoring during pregnancy at @Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, showcasing how personalized care is benefiting mothers and babies. ➡️ @Prof Derek O'Keeffe introduced us to the "hospital at home" initiative in Galway, demonstrating how remote monitoring and care are transforming the management of chronic conditions like respiratory and cardiology care. ➡️ Cora Flynn shared insights on the enabling factors that contribute to the success of remote health monitoring projects, with a focus on nursing leadership and collaboration. ➡️ @Eleanor Campbell highlighted the importance of clinical digital innovation in empowering healthcare teams and enhancing patient outcomes across Dublin and the North East. ➡️ Olivia Gartlan emphasised the importance of demonstrating the value of digital health initiatives, both to patients and the healthcare workforce, ensuring that technology supports care delivery effectively. ➡️ Julie Bellew & @Loretto Grogan shared updates on telehealth initiatives including the Virtual Ward for acute patients, and work on developing a HSE Telehealth Centre of Excellence. These discussions reflect the dedication and collaboration across the HSE to deliver patient-centred care and harness the power of digital tools. Business Sweden’s local team were thrilled to this week co-host the Innovation & New Technologies business programme with the newly opened Embassy of Sweden in Ireland. Following the Embassy Grand Opening with Minister Johan Forssell and Ambassador Lina van der Weyden, Business Sweden arranged two activity tracks exploring opportunities for strengthened Swedish-Irish bilateral and business collaboration: • Digital Health roundtable: participants explored advancing healthcare delivery through partnerships between the government and the private sector. Brilliantly chaired by Innovation Professor Martin Curley, discussions covered key topics such as the importance of standardised data integration, the need for policy reforms and streamlined processes to foster the growth of digital health initiatives. • Net Zero Business Forum: following a presentation on Ireland’s Net-Zero Transformation at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, Climate and Communication, participants at the Net Zero Business Forum identified opportunities for further Swedish-Irish collaboration and partnerships for innovation, such as sustainable transport, wind and heat networks. In a wide-ranging discussion expertly moderated by Assistant Secretary Gary Tobin at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, the need for government policy, access to sustainable energy and efficiency was emphasized, as well as the importance of consumer adoption of new technologies and skills.
