J. Alan Reid, Jr. is a seasoned leader in wealth management and fintech, with a career spanning over 35 years, primarily focused on working with wealthy families and pioneering industry innovations.
Alan serves as a Director and President, for The Arista Group, a Greek family office with offices in Monaco and Sintra. From 1997 to 2015, Reid collaborated closely with Gordon Getty to develop businesses that advanced Mr. Getty’s vision in the evolution of payments and asset management. As president and CEO of several Getty-controlled entities, including Forward Management, ReFlow Management, FISCOP, Sierra Club Mutual Funds, and Sutton Place Management, Reid was instrumental in introducing mutual fund market timing awareness, addressing liquidity issues, and leading the industry’s transition to Liquid Alternatives. Under his leadership, Forward Management, Inc’s assets grew from $70 million to $7 billion.
Reid is also a co-founder of iconik (an Arista-funded entity), a fintech company defining a new market based on the transformative power of shareholder voting. Known for his creativity and ingenuity, Reid has a proven track record in guiding industry groups, bulge bracket firms, family offices, and startups. He was a founding member of the Frontier Analytics Advisory Board, where he worked alongside luminaries like Harry Markowitz, focusing on modern portfolio theory and financial modeling innovations.
Throughout his career, Reid has held significant roles, including serving on the Investment Company Institute Board of Governors, the Forward Funds Board of Trustees, the Legato Board of Directors, the FOLIOfn Board of Directors, and an industry working group at the NY Federal Reserve Bank. At Morgan Stanley, he built and managed operations, trading, human resources, and call centers as SVP, and Executive Director of Business Delivery for Morgan Stanley Online.
Reid currently serves on the board of Caliber Hospitality Trust and as an advisor to several other entities. He is also active in the nonprofit sector, having served on several boards, including Centerpoint and Wildcare. In addition to his business achievements, Reid founded and chaired The 1640 Society, which brings together prominent families and philanthropists.
