HealthIL and the Israel Innovation Institute are looking for a Director, who will grow healthcare innovation activities in Israel in the coming years. What are we looking for? This is a key position - managing the joint activities of HealthIL while expanding and growing the operations, developing cross-sectoral processes in the ecosystem while coordinating and synchronizing with professional government entities. The activity includes working with all players in the relevant ecosystem across different sectors (public and private) to promote ongoing growth. 📊H1 2024 Healthcare Investment Report📊> Reflecting the ACTUAL consequences of the war Analyzing current investment trends provides crucial insights into Israel's future health innovation landscape. With transaction cycles often exceeding 6 months, this report offers a forward-looking perspective on the sector's trajectory. In short, the situation is not good. 📍 Decrease in Invements: Total investment activity decreased by 33% in H1 2024 compared to H1 2023, and private investment decreased by nearly 60% when compared to quarterly activity before October 7th. 📌 All three sectors of healthcare innovation have been affected. 📍Reliance on Non-Traditional Investments: to compensate for lower funding activity - Early stages have resorted to grants and extensions to stay afloat, while later stages rely on PIPE deals. Neither of these are sustainable. 📍Mid-Stage Ongoing Success: Even despite the conflict, mid stage (A/B) rounds noticeably increased in H1 2024 when compared to H1 2023, which is a testament to both the resiliency and quality of emerging startups. This includes a $47M investment to Empathy, $31M to Sensi.AI, and $15M to Opmed.ai. 📍Allocating Funds: Team8 announced a new $500M fund which will allocate a portion of the proceeds to health. Ibex Investors announced a $106M early-stage fund. And both Greylock and Sequoia Capital, two long-standing brand-name Silicon Valley funds, announced they will renew operations in Israel. The importance of healthcare innovation Israel cannot be understated and should be seen as national asset. Israel has achieved a dominant position in the cybersecurity space, but it is barely scratching the surface of the potential of the global healthcare market. It is impossible to ignore the relevance of Israeli healthcare innovation and its contribution to the wider Israeli economy. The continuing conflict, and the higher risk profile of Israel, will undoubtedly continue to harm investment activity in healthcare. While there is significant government involvement already, it may be time to consider adjusting governmental programs to face current challenges and maintain a competitive edge for the future. Did you know that multinational corporation in healthcare contribute an estimate 2B NIS per year to the Israeli economy just from the rent they pay for offices?    The role of these multinationals is critical for the health-tech ecosystem. They drive the next generation of health innovation, collaborate with startups, contribute directly to the Israeli healthcare system, and employ tens of thousands of the best and brightest in Israel.    Over the last few months HealthIL has been working diligently to strengthen the strategic position of healthcare multinationals in Israel, close gaps in understanding between the MNCs and governmental agencies, and better integrate the work of MNCs with broader healthcare innovation initiatives that will affect citizens around the globe.   It is a challenging process.
