Shalom friends, In my latest article we explore the Partzuf (spiritual system) of Arich Anpin, which is the highest and the end goal of all Creation. It is pure compassion and love, and we meditate on it during the Yichud HaHivartei (the unification of the whiteness [of the beard]). It’s important to keep in mind that these are all middot (attributes) that Hashem reveals to us, and is based in the Zohar and the Arizal’s Kabbalah. Shalom friends, Awareness (the Sephira of Da'at) is the starting point of everything we want, be it moving forward, healing, revelations, wisdom and so on. This is the mental state in which we can really claim to be in control of ourselves and take conscious action that is rooted in deeper wisdom. Part of achieving these cool things we all want in life is to fight the automated mode (or monkey mind) we grew up with that does things unconsciously, like when we are driving in a relaxed manner. To do that, we often need reminders of where we are and where we want to be, to center ourselves in the sweet present, and this is why there are many Yichudim (unifications) and Kavanot (intentions) that we use in prayer, studying and even whenever we go about our business. Which stage of your project are you in? I think you've been through this before: In any project or ambitious endeavor, there is a journey, one that isn’t just technical but deeply spiritual and psychological. As executives and leaders, there are emotional phases of pushing through projects and understanding them can be the difference between stagnation and innovation. 1. Uninformed Optimism: At the outset, everything feels possible. This is the stage where the idea is fresh, enthusiasm is high, and the potential is limitless. While this optimism fuels action, it’s often naive. In Kabbalistic terms, this phase is likened to a burst of the primordial light, unshaped and boundless. However, unrefined enthusiasm without depth can only take you so far. Practical Tip: Use this phase to harness passion and set visionary goals. Document your highest aspirations, knowing that they will evolve. Allow this stage to ignite your team’s motivation. 2. Informed Pessimism: Reality sets in. You start seeing the challenges, limitations, and flaws in your initial plans. Optimism fades, and doubt creeps in. This phase is crucial yet often the most perilous because it’s when many projects fail or get abandoned. Spiritually, this can be seen as a phase of restriction, where the boundless light meets its vessel, facing resistance. (Tzimtzum) Practical Tip: Remember that this stage is temporary. Embrace transparency with your team. Address fears directly and create a “solutions-only” space where people can express challenges but must also propose paths forward. Reinforce the initial vision by reviewing what led you to start. 3. Informed Optimism: Here lies the reward for perseverance. With newfound insights and adjustments, the vision transforms into something refined yet achievable. It’s the moment when the initial light shines again but now enclosed within a strong vessel. This phase represents the balance between chasdei (kindness) and gevurah (strength) in Kabbalah: disciplined light that is ready to manifest. Practical Tip: Celebrate progress. Hold review sessions to acknowledge how far the team has come and clarify the next, practical steps. At this stage, leaning into adaptive leadership will keep momentum high and reduce the risk of reverting to pessimism. Final Thought for Executives: Projects are not just tasks but growth journeys that mirror the spiritual ascent through the phases of creation. To push through, hold space for each stage and teach your teams that each step. Optimism, doubt, and renewal have all their sacred place in the process of realizing any vision.
