The mission of the IFT International Division is to educate and connect global individuals to work together to solve challenges in the science of food. The division provides a forum for science of food professionals worldwide to connect on food-related issues of global importance and foster idea sharing across geographic borders. We encourage members join the division to share ideas and contribute to international scientific communication, technology transfer, and exchange among food scientists. The International Division's Food Science for Relief and Development (FSRD) program seeks to increase awareness of how food science and technology can improve global food and nutrition security. Interesting case study on food security. Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Food Science for Relief and Development (#FSRD)
A new nutrition bar named Bonbon Bouye ("baobab delight") has been developed to fight malnutrition in Senegalese children while boosting the local economy, including women farmers. Beginning as a thesis project by two MSU students, they further collaborated with female farmers in Senegal to create a nutritious snack for children. Bonbon Bouye uses peanuts, cowpea, and baobab fruit, which are all readily available in Senegal, to reduce food waste and support local agriculture.
