The Ministry of the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, together with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology IL | משרד החדשנות, המדע והטכנולוגיה, continue to lead significant changes at the Tzafon Medical Center research institute (Poriya)! As part of efforts to strengthen research in the periphery, Yohanan Mali יוחנן מאלי, General Manager of the Ministry for the Negev, Galilee, and National Resilience, Gadi Arieli, Director General of the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, and Ishai Rubin, Senior Head of the Galilee Division, visited the Tzafon Medical Center together with Dr. Noam Yehudai, Director of the Center, and Prof. Avi Peretz, Head of the AIR (Academia, Innovation, & Research) division. Gadi Arieli, Director General of the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, sees the activity at the center as a model for integrating innovation and technology in medicine in the periphery: "The research here addresses local needs and exemplifies innovation that promotes equal opportunities and medical accessibility in the Galilee. This development will reduce social gaps to benefit the region's residents." Yohanan Mali, General Manager of the Ministry for the Negev, Galilee, and National Resilience, concluded: "Strengthening healthcare and research in the Galilee is an important goal. Developing the medical center will help improve healthcare services and reduce disparities among the residents of the north."

In honor of this week's International Occupational Therapy Day, and in preparation for the opening of the Helmsley Rehabilitation Center, we are happy to highlight the important work of our occupational therapists. Tzafon Medical Center has team of 16 dedicated occupational therapists and expected to expand significantly. The team has played an essential role in the planning and designing of the new rehabilitation center. and expected to expand significantly. Occupational therapists work in all departments of Tzafon Medical Center, providing therapy across various specialties: In the Stroke and Neurology Unit, as well as in Orthopedics and the Intensive Care Department, occupational therapists offer care during the initial admission phase and guide patients through a comprehensive rehabilitation process. This includes cognitive, motor, and functional rehabilitation. Occupational therapists in the Outpatient Rehabilitation unit assist soldiers injured in the 'Iron Swords' War, helping them regain function and return to their daily routine. In the Maternity Club, occupational therapists provide developmental guidance for mothers and their babies, both within the community and at the medical center. Even premature babies in the ICU receive specialized care to support their normal development. In the coming month, we will begin to receive war casualties and northern residents in need of rehabilitation. Yesterday, TheMarker published an article about our challenges in recruiting personnel, as explained by the medical center’s director, Dr. Noam Yehudai: “Our challenge is twofold - securing the budget and construction project is just a small part of the story. The biggest challenge is recruiting personnel. No less than 550 new positions will open at the rehabilitation center, in fields such as medicine, nursing, psychology, technology, computing, communication, and more. The shortage of personnel in some of these professions is the most severe in the healthcare system, especially in the reality of ongoing war and immense competition for rehabilitation professionals across the country.” Read the full article on TheMarker: https://lnkd.in/dzXxVwEF Noam Yehudai | Yossi Malka | TheMarker

We were moved and excited today to accompany Master Sergeant (Res.) Yigal Marchenkov on his final visit to the Day Rehabilitation Department, marking the completion of his rehabilitation process at Tzafon medical center. Yigal, a 28-year-old medic from Nof HaGalil, was severely injured in January when a military Hummer overturned on him while patrolling with his unit in Gaza: “Within seconds, I found myself trapped, with injuries to my head, leg, and chest. It all happened so fast.” He had planned to start his first year of physiotherapy studies at the University of Haifa in October, but on October 7th, he was called up for reserve duty with the Givati Brigade, which was cut short by his severe injury. Yigal did not give up. From intensive care at Shaare Zedek, through rehabilitation at Sheba, to the Northern Medical Center - he fought with all his might to recover. “The staff here was my family. They not only treated me physically but also strengthened me mentally and prepared me for life after.” In November, he will return to his physiotherapy studies at the University of Haifa, with a big dream: “I want to come back here as a physiotherapist at the new rehabilitation center that will open soon, to be part of this amazing team and help others as they helped me.” We wish Yigal great success on his new path and very much hope to see him working with us at the new Helmsley Rehabilitation Center upon graduation.
