ASPER-HUJI Innovate's Demo Day, coming up on December 18th, is a platform that showcases innovative ventures developed by students, researchers, and alumni of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. One of the standout projects at this event is Second Skin, led by Dr. Chen Nowogrodski, Ph.D who is in an entrepreneurial postdoc program led by the Ministry of Science and under the leadership of Prof. Oded Shoseyov. This groundbreaking initiative focuses on developing artificial skin from its fundamental building blocks, resulting in a revolutionary artificial skin sticker that offers perfect mimicry, seamless integration, and personalized functionality. It doesn’t just look real—it feels and functions like natural skin. Yissum, the technology transfer company of The Hebrew University. plays a critical role in identifying high-potential innovations like Second Skin, providing support in intellectual property protection, industry partnerships, and commercialization strategies. By helping to transform Chen Nowogrodski’s research into a market-ready product, Yissum ensures that cutting-edge technologies from HUJI can have a real-world impact, particularly in healthcare and biotechnology. At Demo Day, Second Skin exemplifies the collaborative ecosystem of HUJI Innovate and Yissum, demonstrating how academic research can drive technological advancements and address critical global challenges. #ArtificialSkinTechnology #BiotechBreakthrough #NoMatterWhat

Epilepsy affects over 65 million globally, with approximately 30% of patients not responding to current medications. Under the leadership of Prof. Daphne Atlas and Dr. Tawfeeq Shekh Ahmad at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, their team has developed a water-soluble tripeptide that addresses both seizures and the underlying mechanisms of epilepsy. This innovative compound demonstrates anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, leading to a significant reduction in seizure frequency in chronic epilepsy models. It shows promise as both a preventative treatment and an anti-seizure medication. Forging New Alliances for Global Impact 🌍 🌎 🌏 Yissum recently had the privilege of meeting with the American Jewish Committee (AJC), a global leader in advocacy, diplomacy, and inter-communal relations. With a mission to strengthen Jewish communities, defend democratic values, and foster international cooperation, the AJC has been at the forefront of building bridges between diverse sectors and nations for over a century. Our discussion focused on the exciting potential for future partnerships, including welcoming AJC delegations to The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. These visits, facilitated by AJC’s Project Interchange—a special branch dedicated to these types of delegations—will offer a unique opportunity to showcase the university’s world-class research and innovation ecosystem while exploring collaborative projects that address global challenges. We are honored that Project Interchange has selected Yissum for this meaningful collaboration. As the tech transfer company of Hebrew University, Yissum transforms academic breakthroughs into practical solutions that benefit society. By aligning with the AJC’s expansive network of leaders, policymakers, and innovators, we can amplify the reach and impact of these technologies on a global scale. Together, we’re driving progress at the intersection of science, advocacy, and diplomacy—turning innovation into action for a better, more connected world. Stay tuned as we continue to build these meaningful collaborations in 2025 and beyond. #InnovationForGood #GlobalPartnerships #ResearchToImpact

A groundbreaking study by Prof. Haitham Amal and his team from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which was featured on more than 150 media platforms, reveals a possible connection between air pollution and the increased risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children. The research shows that prenatal exposure to pollutants like fine particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NO) can disrupt fetal brain development during critical stages. Genetic predispositions also play a key role, making some individuals more vulnerable to environmental factors. Last month, Yissum's staff member Tamar Vogel joined over 200 women at the sold-out Women in Tech®Israel 2024 Summit, held at the Herzog Law Firm in Tel Aviv. This year, the summit spotlighted the underserved FemTech market, promoting innovative solutions, key investors, and advocates driving women-centric research. Attendees traveled from as far as Be'er Sheva, Jerusalem, and Haifa for vibrant discussions on advancements in women's health and technology. Presentations included Keren Schachter CEO of Maccabi Enterprise, who discussed the acronym for a #VUCA world—Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity— how we can plan (or cannot plan) for the unexpected and adapt. The summit also highlighted new companies such as Gynica Healthcare, a new technology by IMMA Health, studying endometriosis treatments and new ways in which cannabis is being used to provide relief in FemCare. As the tech transfer company of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem for over 60 years, Yissum plays a vital role in transforming academic breakthroughs into real-world solutions. It was instrumental in representing Yissum among this cohort of strong women who care to drive change within this part of our ecosystem. This upcoming Thanksgiving, we're grateful for innovations that keep our food safe from farm to table. Led by Dr. Erez Mills at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, his research is a part of the development of a groundbreaking probiotic that shields chicks from salmonella from day one. This non-GMO solution promises to significantly reduce salmonella levels in poultry, creating healthier flocks and lowering the risk of contamination in the eggs and meat we enjoy at our holiday meals. With natural protection for young chicks, this research not only supports safer meals but also fosters more sustainable practices. Now that's something to be thankful for!
