Obesity is one of India's most pressing health challenges today. According to a report by 'The Lancet' (February 2024), nearly 7 crore Indians over the age of 20 are classified as obese. Even more alarming is the rapid rise in childhood obesity, with 1.25 crore children (ages 5-19) identified as severely overweight in 2022. It is a major risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic health conditions, affecting both men and women across all age groups. Recognising this growing challenge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the recent inauguration of the 38th National Games in Dehradun, emphasised the need for an active lifestyle and balanced nutrition. With autoimmunity being an evolving field and autoimmune disorders among the most complex to diagnose, staying updated with the latest advancements is crucial. To facilitate knowledge exchange and enhance diagnostic expertise on the subject, we recently hosted a CME & Workshop at our National Reference Lab, Okhla. Expert-led sessions by Dr. Ranjan Gupta (AIIMS) and Dr. Dr. Reema Agrawal (Tata 1mg) provided a deep dive into evolving diagnostic techniques, equipping the attendees with the latest knowledge to improve patient care. Students from AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital and doctors also gained hands-on experience with advanced lab tools, bridging the gap between theory and practice. A special thanks to CAHO - Consortium of Accredited Health care Organisation for partnering with us in this initiative. Every so often, a story comes along that exemplifies resilience and the power of a supportive community. This is the story of Vidya Chandran, Director, Strategic Initiatives at Tata 1mg, who turned a personal milestone into an impressive feat. At 40, she took on her first half marathon. A decade later, she set her sights on an even bigger goal - completing the full marathon at one of Asia’s largest and most prestigious marathons, the #TataMumbaiMarathon. The journey wasn’t easy. A foot fracture delayed her training, but Vidya’s determination never wavered. With just three months to prepare, she powered through and crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 05:43:04. This incredible milestone wasn’t achieved in isolation. Vidya’s success was powered by her grit and the unwavering support of her family and her manager, Manisha Mishra, who cheered her on every step of the way.
