It’s no secret that we’re facing an ecological crisis, where the planet’s forest cover is being depleted and biodiversity loss is taking place at a rate that’s 100x to 1000x the normal rate of extinction. Organisations like Sacred Earth Trust give us hope. They’re restoring and reviving forest areas by involving local communities, who have considered them as sacred groves for centuries (going back to ancient scriptures like the Vedas and Puranas!), while also restoring forests that have been degraded by fires. You can be a part of their work, too! Nestled on the foothills of the Himalayas, the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary spreads over various terrains that makes it the ideal home for a diversity of wildlife - from Indian elephants and the Royal Bengal tiger to endangered birds like the great Indian hornbill. The MoEF&CC (Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change) has released a draft policy that’s aimed at protecting the sanctuary’s ecology and biodiversity. It’s currently open for public consultation, which means that you get to voice your opinion on the draft and how it regulates/prohibits human activities within the area, amongst other considerations. Take a look at it and share your thoughts by the 8th of November! https://lnkd.in/djz-m_9p

Coastal Conservation Foundations's ‘Cetaceans of Mumbai Metropolitan Region’ is a long-term research project aimed at understanding: 📖 The behavior and ecology of these cetaceans 📖 How they utilise Mumbai’s waters It’s so important that we know more about these creatures to be able to protect them from anthropogenic activity!
