Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said a national-level committee will soon be established to promote natural farming across the country. Through this committee, farmers will be made aware of adopting natural farming practices and be given necessary training, he said. If farmers adopt natural farming correctly, it will not only boost their income but also preserve soil fertility, he said, adding that in addition, citizens will benefit from access to vegetables, grains, and fruits free from chemicals and pesticides. He stated this after observing the natural farming practices under the guidance of Gujarat Governor, Acharya Devvrat, in village Kainthala in Kurukshetra district, said an official statement. Prior to this, Chouhan visited Gurukul Kurukshetra, where he examined the Gaushala for indigenous cows, the Gurukul's hostel, and other facilities. Gujarat Governor Devvrat provided detailed insights into the progress and achievements of the Gurukul. The union minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare saw wheat, sugarcane crops, as well as the vegetables and fruit plants at the Kanthala natural farming farmhouse. He observed the jaggery-making process and had the opportunity to taste fresh jaggery. He commended the efforts of Gujarat Governor Devvrat, stating that it was truly rewarding to see the practical application of natural farming in the fields of Gurukul. Chouhan highlighted the detrimental effects of excessive use of chemicals and fertilizers, adding that it has led to a significant loss of soil fertility and the decline of beneficial insects. He also pointed out the rise of various diseases linked to produce grown with these harmful practices. He warned that if the situation does not change, the future generations of the country will not forgive the damage done to the environment. Now is the ideal time to embrace natural farming, he stated, adding, by gradually transitioning to this method, farmers can earn substantial profits. #NaturalFarming #SustainableAgriculture #OrganicFarming #SoilHealth #FarmersFirst #AgriInnovation #HealthyLiving #ChemicalFreeFarming #AgriLeadership #ShivrajSinghChouhan #AcharyaDevvrat #Gujarat #Kurukshetra #Gaushala #Jaggery #AgriReforms #FarmersWelfare #AgriIndia #FoodSecurity

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, said disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) should be used for improving the agriculture sector, and asserted that the rural population represents both opportunities and responsibilities. Speaking at the inaugural session of 21st General Session of African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) Conference, the vice president also stressed using technology to alleviate suffering. Speaking at the event, Dhankar said the rural regions nurture 3.6 billion lives, including 894 million rural Indians, "representing both our opportunity and responsibility." "A challenge to our intellect is in form of emergence of disruptive technology. Artificial intelligence, machine learning...No less than industrial revolution," he said. "They offer daunting challenges but also bring a basket of opportunities, only if we learn to unleash them," he said. Dhankhar said these technologies should be used for improving the farm sector and rural areas. "If we can unleash these disruptive technologies for greater good of rural India and farm sector, and of the entire world, humanity will be a safer place," the vice president said. "India has taken some flagship initiatives and one initiative is digital India," he added. He stressed on using technology to mitigate suffering, reducing corruption, and generating accountability. Dhankhar also talked about the significance of the role of women in governance and said India has constitutionally structured participation of women at village and municipal levels. AARDO, one of the the earliest examples of South-South and Triangular cooperation in the fields of agriculture and rural development in the African-Asian region, was established in 1962. It is an autonomous inter-governmental/multilateral organisation, comprising 32 countries of Africa and Asia as full members and three associate members. It has been given the status of an international organisation by the Government of India, at par with other UN organisations in India. #AARDO #VicePresident #JagdeepDhankhar #AIinAgriculture #DigitalIndia #RuralDevelopment #SmartFarming #ArtificialIntelligence #TechnologyForGood #WomenInGovernance #SouthSouthCooperation #TriangularCooperation #AgricultureInnovation #FarmTech #SustainableDevelopment #RuralIndia #GlobalAgriculture #AIForFarmers #TechForRural

After two years of elevated prices because of lower output, the government is expected to step up procurement of tur dal at minimum support price (MSP) to boost buffer and provide farmers with remunerative prices. So far the agencies have purchased 12,335 tonne of tur under the price support scheme (PSS) of the agriculture ministry. The ministry has sanctioned purchase of 1.32 million tonne (MT) of tur in 2024-25 season under price support scheme (PSS) for pulses. Officials said that the agencies – farmers cooperative NAFED India and National Cooperative Consumers' Federation Of India Limited (NCCF) have commenced procurement of tur in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra aiming to boost buffer which depleted to only 35,000 tonne against the norm of one MT. A chunk of these existing stocks were built up through imports. Meanwhile, at Latur (Maharashtra), the hub of the country’s trade, the mandi prices of newly harvested tur dals are ruling at the level of the MSP of Rs 7550/quintal for 2024-25 season, while in the last two years due to drop in output, mandi prices were ruling in the range of Rs 9000 to Rs 10,000/quintal, substantially above MSP. Officials said that because of decline in tur output prices were ruling atleast 30% above the MSP, which led to agencies falling to procure pulses variety in the last two years – 2022-23 and 2023-24 under PSS. The retail tur prices which are currently ruling around Rs 160/kg are likely to fall in coming weeks with an expectation of bumper harvest of above 4 MT in 2024-25 crop year (July-June). However, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India in its first advance estimate last year had estimated a output of 3.5 MT, marginally higher than 3.41 MT in 2023-24 crop year. In addition prospects of imports of around a MT of tur dal this year, would improve supplies and bring down prices further, traders said. #TurDal #MSP #PulsesProcurement #FarmersWelfare #AgriPolicy #FoodSecurity #PriceSupport #Agriculture #RuralEconomy #CommodityPrices
