Executive Education at Ahmedabad University works closely with L&T Technology Services (LTTS) Global Engineering Academy to bring new ways of learning to enhance the competency of engineers in real-world scenarios. A two-day unique inter-disciplinary workshop titled "Integrated Approach to Plant Engineering" was designed and conducted by Prof Sunil Kale, Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Mechanical, Civil Structural, Electrical, Chemical, and Instrumentation Engineers worked together on real-world scenarios taken from the Plant Engineering division at L&T Technology Services Ltd, Vadodara. This program created an opportunity for cross-discipline interaction while responding to a problem statement. It encouraged participants to ask questions at a systems level, learn about linkages with other engineering disciplines, and design blueprints together as a team to respond to the challenge given. On the second day, participants engaged in hands-on activities, including designing a plant model, determining equipment locations, and planning piping routes, all of which provided practical exposure to the complexities of plant engineering. Here’s what some of the participants had to say about their experience: “This workshop provided a practical perspective on many theoretical concepts we had previously studied. It was my first exposure to isometric drawings and 3D flow diagrams. As an electrical engineer, understanding the interdisciplinary approach has enhanced my ability to collaborate with engineers from other disciplines. I now have a clearer understanding of the data I need to provide to others and how interconnected cost and design elements are across disciplines.” Glimpses from the workshop.
