  • Executive Education at Ahmedabad University works closely with L&T Technology Services (LTTS) Global Engineering Academy to bring new ways of learning to enhance the competency of engineers in real-world scenarios. A two-day unique inter-disciplinary workshop titled "Integrated Approach to Plant Engineering" was designed and conducted by Prof Sunil Kale, Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Mechanical, Civil Structural, Electrical, Chemical, and Instrumentation Engineers worked together on real-world scenarios taken from the Plant Engineering division at L&T Technology Services Ltd, Vadodara. This program created an opportunity for cross-discipline interaction while responding to a problem statement.  It encouraged participants to ask questions at a systems level, learn about linkages with other engineering disciplines, and design blueprints together as a team to respond to the challenge given. On the second day, participants engaged in hands-on activities, including designing a plant model, determining equipment locations, and planning piping routes, all of which provided practical exposure to the complexities of plant engineering. Here’s what some of the participants had to say about their experience: “This workshop provided a practical perspective on many theoretical concepts we had previously studied. It was my first exposure to isometric drawings and 3D flow diagrams. As an electrical engineer, understanding the interdisciplinary approach has enhanced my ability to collaborate with engineers from other disciplines. I now have a clearer understanding of the data I need to provide to others and how interconnected cost and design elements are across disciplines.” Glimpses from the workshop. • Ahmedabad University hosted a thought-provoking dialogue with senior leaders from TTEC, exploring the evolving relationship between Academia and Industry in shaping future-ready professionals. Key takeaways:   Balancing Theory and Practice: While the industry excels at applying frameworks through practice, delving into researched frameworks and models can deepen their understanding of the theory behind those frameworks and enhance the outcome of their applications. TTEC leaders highlighted the importance of returning to the classroom to bridge this gap.     Real-World Learning: The University highlighted the importance of combining academic rigour and bringing real-world challenges into classrooms, where theory meets practice, fostering holistic problem-solving.   External Perspectives: Often, industry leaders rise through the ranks within an organisation and miss the external perspectives. Academic engagement is important for leaders because it allows them to acquire a global perspective from various experts, including academicians, researchers, and practitioners.   This dialogue brings to the fore an urgent need for integrating academic rigour with real-world insights to create impactful learning experiences. At Ahmedabad University, we remain committed to fostering such exchanges to inspire innovative solutions and holistic education.   Arnab Kr. • Presenting the inaugural cohort of the GROW - An Executive General Management Programme at Ahmedabad University! The GROW Programme, designed to transform managers into leaders of tomorrow, brings together participants from various domains, including Marketing, Design, R&D, Operations, and Product Development across different industries, enhancing the learning opportunities within the peer group. The programme aims to serve as a platform for developing the leadership capabilities of future leaders, with a strong emphasis on enhancing their business acumen. The keynote speech by Professor Shobha Das, Dean of the Amrut Mody School of Management (AMSOM), set the tone of the inaugural where she addressed critical questions for managers and senior managers aspiring to leadership roles: What actions are essential while transitioning to leadership role, and what responsibilities follow once they become leaders? Professor Das highlighted the key shifts in approaches necessary for leadership growth, offering a glimpse into the 10-month programme. She emphasised the importance of: -Developing comprehensive understanding by moving from a specialist to a generalist approach -Evolving from data analyst to knowledge integrator -Transitioning from problem solver to agenda setter -Becoming a diplomat instead of a warrior Once these shifts are mastered, leaders must focus on strategy development, vision creation, resource management, nurturing top talent, and maintaining operational success. The session also featured insights from Professor Parag Patel, PhD, Senior Associate Dean (AMSOM), who introduced the University’s distinctive interdisciplinary approach to learning; Professor Dr. Amrita Bihani, Chair of the GROW Programme, who discussed its unique features; and Professor Devanath Tirupati, Executive Provost, who shared tips on leveraging the experience.
