Are you running around in circles? Sometimes it's worth making bold moves
𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬, 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐭 𝐈𝐒𝐁 𝐓𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐌𝐞 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 A few weeks ago, I was at ISB and decided to go for a run around the campus. The running track is circular as the main building is at the center, but as I completed each lap, I noticed something unique. There are smaller paths—arteries—branching out from the main loop, weaving through the campus. By the end of the run, I realized that this wasn’t just about fitness—it was a lesson on life, work, and startups. 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟏: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚. In startups, you often feel like you’re running in circles. The same challenges keep coming back: fixing churn, refining processes, scaling operations. But every lap builds strength and consistency. Repetition isn’t failure—it’s preparation. 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟐: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The circular path keeps you grounded, but the arteries are where you explore. They represent opportunities—new products, bold experiments, different strategies. If you only stick to the main loop, you’ll miss what’s out there. 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟑: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝. On a circular track, there’s no finish line in sight. It’s easy to feel like you’re running endlessly. But the key isn’t to sprint—it’s to show up, lap after lap. Because the effort compounds, even if the progress isn’t immediately visible. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲? Startups, like life, aren’t linear. The circles test your endurance. The arteries push your boundaries. And success? It comes from balancing both—staying grounded while being bold enough to explore.
