BBN highlights the prevalence of Obstetric Violence during this 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence (GBV). Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) is critically important within GBV. Worldwide the majority of people pregnant and/or postpartum experience some form of Obstetric Violence. Even in high income countries the rates are very high. "The prevalence of obstetric violence was overall 45.3% (95% CI 27.5–63.0; I2 = 100.0%). The prevalence of specific forms of mistreatment was also estimated. Lack of access to analgesia was 17.3% (95% CI 6.9–27.7; I2 = 99.7%). Ignored requests for help was 19.2% (95% CI 11.7–26.6; I2 = 99.0%). Shouting and scolding 19.7% (95% CI 13.0–26.4; I2 = 98.7%). The use of fundal pressure during the second stage of labor (Kristeller maneuver) was 30.3% (95% CI 22.1–38.5; I2 = 97.6%)... Lack of information and/or consent were the most frequent domains extracted from the qualitative articles Respectful maternity care (RMC) is a human right that ensures women and their babies are treated with dignity, respect, and care. It also protects them from harm and mistreatment. https://lnkd.in/gSt6UBBZ

About us
Bangalore Birth Network (BBN), a Bangalore-based all India resource for evidence-based, respectful maternity care, was launched in 2007 in India to raise awareness and change the paradigm of obstetric care to one based on evidence, respect and compassion to improve outcomes and experiences. The core of this is based on a triangulation of hearing and understanding women experiences, medical and health evidence, and the concerns and needs of providers and hospitals. This in turn changes the relationship of care. Through social media platforms and phone-based counselling we have been guiding women and families on birth options and pregnancy/postpartum care for the last 3 years. BBN Objectives To provide information and education to women and their families in English and regional languages that enhance their understanding of birth as a normal life process and enable them to make informed decisions. To administer exchange forums about normal physiological birth and reproductive health through public events, educational seminars, online discussion groups, websites and meetings. To support providers in the private and public sectors, whose aims are to deliver evidence based care, as well as provide training opportunities for providers who wish to provide mother and baby-friendly services. To focus on providing women from lower socio-economic backgrounds access to the most up-to-date, evidence based and humane mother and baby-friendly care. To conduct research and programs related to humane, evidence-based prenatal, labor and delivery and postpartum related issues. To make data and findings available to the general public and policy makers to make informed decisions. To promote respectful, evidence based maternity care through any possible programs, or research and advocacy activities. The BBN is a registered non-profit society in Bangalore.

Transitioning to Midwifery Models of Care: A Global Change for Moms and Babies! At #BangaloreBirthNetwork, we’re excited to announce the launch of the World Health Organization’s new paper on the Midwifery Model of Care! This important guide shows how midwives can help improve care for mothers and their newborns around the world. The WHO believes that midwifery care is essential for better health outcomes. This model helps women have safer births and makes sure they receive personalized care. It encourages women to make choices about their care and supports natural childbirth while respecting their needs. ✨ Why Choose the Midwifery Model? 1.Puts the woman and her family first in the care process. 2.Reduces unnecessary medical procedures. 3.Offers continuous support during labor. Improves outcomes for both mothers and babies. As we move towards this recommended model, we at #BBN are dedicated to promoting midwifery care in India. Let’s work together to support healthier births and empower women in their childbirth experiences. 📢 Stay tuned for more updates on how we can help in our community! https://lnkd.in/dsAX7JpN #MidwiferyCare #BangaloreBirthNetwork #GlobalHealth #WHO #RespectfulMaternityCare #MaternalHealth #EmpowerBirth

Bangalore Birth Network (BBN) is dedicated to empowering mothers with accurate, evidence-based knowledge for a healthy pregnancy and birth. 🚫 Myth: Eating lots of ghee or butter will help "slip" the baby out for an easier delivery. 🔍 The Truth: There is no scientific evidence that consuming ghee or butter makes delivery smoother. While healthy fats are essential, excessive intake can lead to weight gain, which may complicate your delivery instead of easing it. ✅ What Really Helps: A balanced and nutritious diet 🌱 Staying active with safe exercises 🧘♀️ Regular prenatal checkups and care 👩⚕️ Break free from the myths, and trust what truly works for a healthy pregnancy and delivery!

We’re excited to share a significant update from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation India, highlighting the transformative impact of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). At Bangalore Birth Network, we strongly advocate for KMC due to its numerous benefits for both infants and parents. This method, which involves skin-to-skin contact between the baby and parent, has been shown to improve thermal regulation, support breastfeeding, and enhance emotional bonding. It also contributes to shorter hospital stays and lower medical costs by reducing complications and infections. We believe that the continued promotion and support of KMC is essential for advancing maternal and newborn health. Let’s work together to spread awareness and ensure that every family has access to this life-changing care. #BangaloreBirthNetwork #KangarooMotherCare #MaternalHealth #NewbornCare #BMGFIndia #HealthcareInnovation
Doctors in India are drawing inspiration from kangaroos to save babies! A new study has proven that Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care, or iKMC, is an immediate skin-to-skin technique between mom and baby that dramatically improves the survival rates of unstable, preterm, and low-birth-weight babies. Keeping a newborn on their mother's chest after birth provides the warmth, comfort, and care they need. iKMC can potentially save an additional 150,000 newborns yearly, allowing more kids to grow up and chase their dreams!
