As our dear co-founder and a man containing multitudes, Dr. John's legacy lives on at CLR – with a deeper commitment to realising his vision for true equity in education, and for a brighter future where all children can achieve their true potential. "The song is ended, but the melody lingers on." - Irving Berlin. For the last two weeks, I kept thinking about what would be a fitting statement I could make for John's (John Kurrien) passing. For a man who lived his life on his own terms, I could not feel anything but enormous gratitude and deep admiration for John's empathy, grit, ideals of equity, exceptional ability to have courageous conversations, and humorous take on situations - so full of life! Throughout my time in the social sector, I kept hearing 'We stand on the shoulders of giants', and here I am - not just started my education reform work with governments under John's guidance, but running the organisation he founded 40 years ago - I am profoundly grateful for everything he has done for me, never knowing whether he truly knew the momentous role he played in my leadership. I will terribly miss our conversations, arguments and jokes! Thank you, John, for everything you have done for me, for the children of this country, and for everything you stood for! Rest in peace, 'Oh Giant', knowing that all your songs will continue to reverberate at Centre for Learning Resources (CLR); knowing that the night will shine just a little brighter with all the melodies you have left us with! Here's Mini Shrinivasan, who has beautifully articulated John's contribution to the world of education and beyond. https://lnkd.in/dyND5hwd Zakiya Kurrien | Daljit Mirchandani | Janak Nabar | Pradeep Bhargava | Farida Lambay | ingrid mendonca | Ahona K. | Anurata Tribhuvan | Mayuresh Bhoyte | Chetan Bhangdia |
