On December 16, 2024, the Centre for Social and Behaviour Change had the opportunity to host the second day of the BREW-ESA Conference in partnership with Ashoka University. The conference brought together some of the most distinguished minds in behavioural science and public policy at the India Habitat Centre. We kickstarted with a welcome address by Pavan Mamidi, Director of CSBC, who set the tone for the discussions to follow by emphasizing the role of behavioural science in addressing critical developmental challenges. The highlight of the evening was a special lecture by Sanjit Dhami, who delivered an engaging presentation on Social Norms, Emotions, Conditional Reciprocity, and Human Behaviour. His analysis offered profound insights into the underlying mechanisms of human decision-making and how they intersect with social and economic systems. The evening was brought to a close after a thought-provoking panel discussion on Behavioural Economics and Public Policy moderated by Shagata Mukherjee. The panel featured an exceptional group of speakers– Dr Prachi Mishra, Aastha Bhakhri, Dr Lata Gangadharan, Nirat Bhatnagar, Urvashi Wattal, and Dr Sujoy Chakravarty. The discussion covered various topics, from applying behavioural insights in financial inclusion to the role of experimental economics in designing effective public policies. These interactions revealed how non-monetary incentives and social obligations profoundly structure the community's economy.
