As part of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan stakeholder and public consultation, CUMTA conducted a meeting with the Kancheepuram Collectorate under the Chairmanship of District Collector Tmt. Kalaiselvi Mohan, I.A.S., along with Mr. I. Jeyakumar, IRTS, Member Secretary, CUMTA. The discussion focused on key aspects such as public transport, non-motorized transport, road networks, and junction improvements. CUMTA is developing a Comprehensive Mobility Plan for the Chennai Metropolitan Area (5904 sq. km.). to enhance urban transport. As part of this initiative, we conducted a stakeholder consultation meeting with the Police Department to discuss key mobility challenges and gather their valuable insights. Discussions focused on dedicated freight corridors to reduce two-wheeler collisions, addressing footpath encroachments for safer pedestrian movement, pedestrian foot over bridges to improve accessibility, road widening at key locations and on-street parking management for better traffic flow. CUMTA held a review committee meeting on the Updation of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the Chennai Metropolitan Area. The CMP is a long-term transportation plan with a horizon period of 25 years, designed to shape the mobility of people and goods while planning future transportation infrastructure for the region. The plan aims to reduce travel time and costs, provide reliable and faster public transport, expand the public transport network, improve interconnectivity between various modes of transport, and enhance road infrastructure for safe and efficient mobility. Systra, the appointed consultant, presented updates on the progress of the CMP. The meeting was chaired by Mr. I.
