How To Give Constructive Feedback: The Sandwich Method 🥪 The Sandwich method is a way to deliver constructive feedback (criticism) by sandwiching it between positive statements. The steps are: 1️⃣ Start with praise: Begin by highlighting something positive about the person’s performance. 2️⃣ Present the criticism: State the behaviour that needs improvement and any actionable tasks they can implement to address it. 3️⃣ Close with more praise: End with another specific piece of positive feedback. The positive feedback serves as a cushion to the negative feedback. Some tips for using the feedback sandwich method: • Be empathetic: Consider the feelings, perspectives, and needs of the receiver. Avoid using harsh, accusatory, or judgemental language. • Be specific: Be as specific as possible with you praise and criticism. • Listen actively: After giving your feedback, listen actively and empathetically to the other person’s response.
