[IIT Bombay Students Field Exposure Visit] On 28th and 29th Sep 2024, about 50 IIT Bombay students registered for courses "TD 602 Soil, Land Use, GIS and Agriculture" and "TD 603 Water Resources Management" had a field visit to Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR)'s Darewadi Watershed Management Project. The field visit aimed to familiarise students from different disciplines with the field realities of agriculture (including soil and water, cropping pattern) and water resources management (mostly water budgeting and watershed treatments through stakeholder participation) in rural areas. One of the activities was harvesting soybean crop (crop-cutting experiment) as part of research at the Digital Agriculture Lab at IIT Bombay (D-AgriLab) #Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas This visit exposed students to 'the clash between theory learned in classes and field realities'. We aim to minimize this gap, improve the understanding of science in class and hands-on/practices in the field and explore research-based alternatives in the form of products, processes and policy-related transdisciplinary research.
