𝐀 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐫. 𝐆𝐃 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐥 It all began with a simple dream—one that would change countless lives. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐆𝐃 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐥, a surgeon by training, found himself facing a dilemma early in his career. While performing surgeries, he realised something: medical tools could be better. Patients deserved more. And so, in 1982, with just two employees and a vision to improve healthcare, Dr. Agarwal founded G Surgiwear Limited in the small town of Shahjahanpur. What started as a modest operation soon grew into something far bigger than he could have ever imagined. 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐆 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞-𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 30 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. From pioneering the development of hydrocephalus shunts to creating innovative fabrics that made surgeries safer, Dr. Agarwal’s work reshaped the healthcare landscape. But even as his company thrived, Dr. Agarwal never lost sight of his deeper calling—giving back. It was this sense of purpose that led him to Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH). After witnessing the hospital’s work firsthand, he made a decision that would change everything: he donated land to help the hospital expand. “When I saw how well they were doing, I thought, why not make it bigger?” he recalls. What started with a few outpatients has grown into a bustling centre of healing. Today, Smt. Vimla Devi Netralaya in Mohammadi, Lakhimpur Kheri, sees over 493,000 outpatients annually and performs nearly 15,000 surgeries each year, including 7,483 paid surgeries and 9,930 non-paying surgeries. Dr. Agarwal’s contribution was pivotal in making this level of impact possible. His decision to give wasn’t motivated by fame or fortune but by something far more meaningful—a desire to leave a legacy of care. “The money will be left behind anyway,” he says simply. “I prefer to use it for causes that make a real impact.” And his impact doesn’t end there. As an innovator, Dr. Agarwal is always looking ahead. His latest breakthrough is a resorbable metal implant—designed to dissolve once a fracture heals, eliminating the need for follow-up surgeries. It’s innovations like these that prove his leadership is not just about running a successful company but about improving lives, one invention at a time. Dr. Agarwal’s partnership with SCEH showcases the power of vision, compassion, and purpose. His journey reminds us that true success lies in what we give, not what we gain. #SCEHDonorStories #PhilanthropyInAction #HealthcareInnovation #TransformingLives #Leadership Umang M. On #WorldPrematurityDay, we honour the tiny fighters born too soon and shine a spotlight on #RetinopathyofPrematurity (ROP). This condition affects the delicate eyes of premature and low birth babies and can lead to lifelong vision challenges if not detected early. Early detection and timely treatment can make all the difference in preserving sight and providing a brighter future. For parents and caregivers of preemies, it's crucial to schedule #regulareyeexams as part of their care. At Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, with unwavering support from our partners, we are committed to protecting the vision of preemies by actively screening for ROP in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). What questions should I ask my baby’s healthcare provider? Questions you can ask your baby’s ophthalmologist to learn more about retinopathy of prematurity include:  Is my baby at risk for retinopathy of prematurity?  How often does my baby need screenings for ROP?  When might my baby need treatment?  What is the best treatment option?  What are the benefits and risks of treatment?  What follow-up visits will my baby need after treatment? Together, we can spread awareness, support families, and ensure every #preemie gets the chance to see the world clearly. #eyecare #eyecareinchildren #prematurityandvisionloss #visionloss #ROP #retina #retinaldetachment #eyehealth #SCEH #DrShroffsCharityEyeHospital Umang Mathur Suneeta Dubey Dr. Shalini Singh M.S., FCPS, FMRF Dr. Manisha Acharya Arpan Gandhi Monica Gandhi Dr. Suma Ganesh Sima Das Dr Parul Datta
