Our 4th New-Entrant training programme in India now draws to an end. We had the pleasure of training 20 care professionals and 10 nurses along with Vanessa, an NHS clinical lead and Faye Ranner, a Senior Care Practitioner from Evolve Care Group. One of the most poignant moments during training is asking students to wear sunglasses smeared with Vaseline to impair their vision and use earbuds to limit their hearing. This simulates the sensory limitations that residents may experience. The students support each during the mealtimes, one group were asked to feed as if they were in a rush and the other group as the person wanting to be fed. This exercise really highlights the importance of understanding sensory deprivation, helping to build empathy and a deeper understanding of individual needs, and showing how vital it is to support each person with understanding and compassion.
