Umesh Solanke, an Eklavya Alumni from the Beldara community in Melghat's Kanjoli village, is pursuing a BSc in Chemistry at Nagpur's Ambedkar College. He shares the harsh reality of the copy culture prevalent in local educational institutions in his village. Many students study only till 12th grade and discontinue their studies thereafter, prioritizing financial independence over higher education. It's rare for students from his community to move to big cities for higher education. Umesh is an exception, recognizing the importance of quality formal education. He hopes to inspire others to pursue higher studies in top institutions, not just for the sake of earning a degree. Join Umesh and many others who are breaking barriers! Register now for our UG Workshop, designed specifically for students from rural and tribal areas, and take the first step towards a brighter future! Register here: https://lnkd.in/d2ZQqb5S The application deadline is tomorrow - 1 December! Akash Modak Prathamesh Chavan Piyush Gangreddiwar

#gentlereminder to register for our UG workshop happening in December and spread the message to those who might benefit from this workshop! Aditya Tekam's story is just one example of a first-generation college student who never thought of going out of his district to pursue higher studies. All our Eklavya alumni have such journeys in which stepping out of their district for higher education is a big deal. Despite all the challenges, he is now enjoying learning at IISER and wants more students from his Gond community to come to this institute. It is not just about quality education, but also about the representation of socio-economically marginalized communities in this space. We aim for a future where students like Aditya do not feel isolated, lonely, and odd one out in classrooms at such institutes but see folks from their space, and culture as well! Help us achieve that by sharing the link below with potential students who might like to attend the workshop and get more awareness about such educational opportunities! Eklavya India Foundation reposted this
A few days ago, we had the privilege of attending a session with Dr. Harish Wankhede sir. The inspiration he instilled in us is beyond words. He taught us, especially as students from rural backgrounds, how to start thinking ambitiously about higher education and our future. One of the most impactful aspects of the session was his practical advice on what paths we should pursue and what we should avoid. Dr. Harish Wankhede shared several invaluable insights during the session, including: 1. Society should develop in a scientific manner to foster a change in mindset and create awareness. 2. If you want to achieve something, first desire it deeply; 80% of the work is done in your mind. 3. You have two privileges: i) Internet and ii) Institutes like Eklavya. I did not have access to such facilities when I started. He also helped clarify two major questions I had: How can scientific models be used for social development? How can I connect my education with the social sector? To answer these, within just an hour, he introduced terms like behaviorism, positivism, empiricism, metanarrative, anthropology, ethnography, and indology. These concepts were entirely new to me, but they opened up a new perspective on how education and science can drive societal progress. From my perspective, Dr. Wankhede believes in pursuing unique and transformative ideas. He emphasized that we should aim to study not just at India’s top universities but also at the best institutions globally. Before leaving, he assigned us two tasks: 1. Be available for open opportunities. 2. Research how science can address societal problems sustainably. How have you used education to address societal challenges? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thank you, Dr. Harish Wankhede sir, for such an enlightening session. A heartfelt thanks to Eklavya India Foundation for providing us this incredible opportunity to learn from such an inspiring individual.
