EPR Targets for Oil Producers! Did you know that under the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Second Amendment Rules, 2023, issued by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), oil producers are now required to meet progressive Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) targets for Used Oil recycling? Oil producers must achieve Used Oil collection and recycling targets set at 5% for the base oil or lubrication oil sold or imported in the previous year, for 2024-25, increasing to an ambitious 50% target by 2030- 31. What does this mean? -Producers must prioritize investments in efficient Used Oil collection and upgrading recycling technologies to meet these growing targets. -Circular economy practices like recycling and re-refining will reshape the lubricants industry, positioning recyclers as pivotal players, particularly in the EPR certificate transfer ecosystem.
