  • Grove RT700E refurbished in Qatar No longer in production, the Grove RT700E rough-terrain #crane continues to work on jobsites worldwide. An owner of this crane in Qatar loved its 20-year-old RT700E crane so much that instead of selling it, the company opted for a full refurbishment from Manitowoc’s EnCORE program. According to Manitowoc, the EnCORE program provides a cost-effective solution for extending the life and enhancing the performance of its cranes. Manitowoc performs the work at multiple locations worldwide and in other markets via approved partners. In Qatar, the local EnCORE partner is Grove dealer Mannai Heavy Equipment. The company recently refurbished the 2005 Grove RT700E for and oil and gas sector customer that had used the crane for almost 20 years in a demanding application and in some of the world’s hottest and driest conditions. The RT700E’s ability to cope with environments like this made it one of the most popular Grove rough terrain crane models. The crane features a 55-ton capacity and is rigged with a 33.5 meter Megaform main boom, and a 6-cylinder Cummins diesel engine. In the Middle East, the RT700E and other Grove rough-terrain cranes are highly sought after for their durability and adaptability, according to Magdy Fawzi, service manager for mobile cranes at Mannai Heavy Equipment. • New #electric bucket #truck from Terex Utilities Terex Utilities has announced its next generation of a zero-emissions bucket truck for the electric utility industry. The new range will be displayed on the Mack Trucks booth for the first time at NTEA Work Truck Week, taking place next week in Indianapolis, US. Terex Utilities has partnered with Mack to produce the lifts that boast enhanced range and more payload than other electric chassis on the market, says Terex. Terex installed its Optima HR55 aerial device powered by the HyPowerTM SmartPTO by Viatec on the Mack MD7 Electric chassis. Preliminary testing revealed the unit has up to 1.5-times enhanced range capabilities compared to other Class 6/7 medium duty electric chassis bucket trucks, says the manufacturer, with double the payload capacity on the rear axle. The Terex aerial device, powered by the SmartPTO, operates independent of the MD7 Electric chassis which helps to ease range anxiety and allows utility crews to operate the boom and outriggers for a normal workday without taking away charge from the chassis. It follows Terex’s first all-electric bucket truck launched in 2022, with an Optima 55-foot aerial mounted on an International eMV. A limited supply of the new #trucks will be available in 2025, with a standard delivery of 12-18 months. “Our collaboration with Mack Trucks represents continued movement forward in zero-emissions utility vehicles,” said Tyler Schwingler, Terex Utilities Product Marketing Manager. “By combining our industry-leading Optima HR55 aerial device with Mack’s #innovative MDe7 chassis, we’re providing utility companies with a solution that doesn’t compromise on performance or capability while meeting their #sustainability goals.” The all-electric truck is also equipped with the 3rd Eye digital platform, integrating advanced camera systems, AI, and industry-leading #technology to provide up to six HD cameras displayed on a spacious 7-inch in-cab monitor. The system provides a complete, real-time view of the vehicle’s surroundings, significantly reducing blind spots when reversing, changing lanes, or operating in tight or high-traffic areas. • Growth moderates in latest Ashtead quarterly results Ashtead Group’s North American business reported flat growth in the three months to 31 January, ending a long series of high-growth year-on-year quarterly results for the business. Sunbelt Rentals in the US saw revenues fall by 3.5% to US$2202.3 million, with rental revenues up 1% at $2060.4 million. Its Canadian business reported revenues down by 7% to $158.1 million, while Sunbelt Rentals UK reported flat sales of $207.5 million for the quarter. Ashtead, which is planning to switch its stock market listing from London to New York, saw group profits after tax of $309.7 million, down 7% from $332.3 million. EBITDA profit was 1% up at $1177 million. Ashtead’s chief executive, Brendan Horgan, said North American mega projects and hurricane response activity had more than offset a decline in commercial construction markets, which were being impacted by higher interest rates. “However, underlying demand continues to be strong and we expect this segment to recover as interest rates stabilise”, said Horgan, who added; “We are in a position of strength, with the operational flexibility and financial capacity to take advantage of the ongoing structural growth opportunities we see for the business and enhance returns to #shareholders as we follow our Sunbelt 4.0 plan. “We expect full year results in line with our previous expectations and the Board looks to the future with confidence.” For more information on the Construction, Mining Equipment and Allied Industries, please reach us at www.equipmenttimes.in Ramamurthy Mayavan | Philip Varghese | Editor In Chief- EQUIPMENT TIMES #equipment  #constructionmachinery #infrastructure #contractor #constructionequipment  #manufacturing  #machine #mining #miningequipment

  • HSS revenues decline amid “challenging market conditions” HSS Hire Group has reported a 2% decline in like-for-like revenues for the 12-month period ending 30 December 2024, with the company citing challenging market conditions and a shift in sales mix. Revenues for the period were £333 million, excluding the Power business sold in March 2024, while its gross margin also fell also fell from 47.0% to 45.2% due to an increased share of rehire business and lower seasonal product sales. As part of its restructuring efforts that it announced last year, HSS Hire implemented a new group structure, splitting its operations into two standalone businesses: HSS ProService (“Pro”) and HSS The Hire Service Company. The company said the reorganisation aimed to provide a clearer strategic focus for each unit, with separate leadership teams now overseeing their respective growth initiatives. In line with these changes, HSS Hire said it also undertook a cost rationalisation programme in the fourth quarter, which included the closure of 10 operating sites. It said the decision was driven by both market conditions and a broader strategy to optimise the company’s network and improve asset utilisation in key customer areas. Despite the restructuring, operating costs increased by 3% year-on-year, contributing to a decline in profitability. Underlying EBITDA for the period was approximately £48.5 million, while underlying EBITA stood at £10 million. Steve Ashmore, executive chair, HSS ProService and director, HSS Hire Group plc said, “Whilst market conditions remained challenging in the second half of 2024, following the well-executed restructuring and streamlining of our core operations, HSS is now better positioned to deliver sustainable growth as market conditions improve. Rolls-Royce Power Systems reports record FY2024 results Rolls-Royce Power Systems reported that its underlying revenue exceeded € 5 billion for the first time in fiscal year 2024, climbing 11% vs. the previous year to € 5.05 billion (£ 4.27 billion). Adjusted operating profit jumped 40% to € 662 million (£ 560 million), while the return on sales rose to 13.1% compared to 10.4% in 2023. Dr Joerg Stratmann, CEO, Rolls-Royce Power Systems, attributed these record figures to a “clear strategy focusing on energy supply, governmental business, marine, battery storage and service,” as well as efficiency enhancement programs. “We are in a strong position in our markets around the world,” he stated. “We have increased our market share in mtu products and see further growth. Some of our end markets are growing significantly, decoupled from the general economic trend. This and our order intake of € 6 billion euros make us very confident for 2025.” The largest increase in sales was recorded by the backup power systems business, which Rolls-Royce Power Systems said grew by 25% overall and by as much as 46% for backup power systems for data centers. This growth in power generation, along with cost efficiency benefits, contributed to the company’s higher operating profit. Also contributing was the continuing demand for products for land and naval forces, which resulted in a 17% sales growth in sales in the governmental business sector.
