    Ratan Tata Biography Ratan Naval Tata was born on December 28, 1937, in Bombay (now Mumbai), British India, to Naval Tata and Sooni Commissariat. His parents separated when he was 10 years old, and he was formally adopted by his grandmother, Navajbai Tata, through the Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata Trust. Tata graduated from Cornell University's College of Architecture with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture in 1961. He joined Tata & Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, in 1961, initially working on the shop floor of Tata Steel. **Career** Ratan Tata succeeded J.R.D. Tata as the Chairman of Tata Sons in 1991, a position he held until 2012. During his tenure, he transformed the group into a global conglomerate, diversifying its interests and expanding its reach.
