Empowering Global Nutrition through South-South Cooperation 🌍🤝 Have you ever heard of food fortification? It describes the process of adding important vitamins and minerals to everyday foods to boost nutrition and prevent deficiencies. India is leading the way in scaling up fortified rice, setting a global example. To promote knowledge exchange across borders, we brought together experts from West Africa, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar to learn from India’s best practices. 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭: 📍 Department Of Food And Public Distribution: Gaining insights on incorporating fortified rice into public programmes. 📍 NIFTEM & Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi: Insightful discussions on quality control and innovative approaches to rice fortification. 📍 Premix Manufacturer in #Jaipur: Exploring technology transfer and the production of fortified rice kernels. 📍 Maharashtra Site Visits: Witnessing the use of fortified rice in schools and universities. The South-South exchange emphasised the role of innovation and collaboration in improving global nutrition standards. India’s public-private partnerships provide a strong model for scaling up Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF). Future efforts will focus on procurement, distribution, quality control, and consumer awareness. To advance this, we will host a webinar series on Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) in the coming months to promote the acceptance of fortified food. In addition, institutions like the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Sir Vithaldas Thackersey College of Home Science, and Jvs Food Pvt Ltd - India are committed to supporting research, quality control, and awareness-building. Stay tuned for our upcoming #SBCC webinar series and be part of the movement to improve nutrition and public health. Together, we can drive change! 💪🍚 Learn more about our work: https://lnkd.in/g4H8cwNX 📌 Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) | PATH | Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH | German Embassy New Delhi

Celebrating Wetlands for Biodiversity and Climate Protection 🌱 Wetlands are nature's superheroes – protecting #biodiversity, supporting communities, and fighting #ClimateChange. These rich ecosystems are home to an incredible variety of plants and animals. In India alone, wetlands span 15.98 million hectares, including 85 Ramsar Sites recognised for their global importance. In our ongoing topic week, we explored the crucial role wetlands play in sustaining the health of our planet. However, they remain under threat – from pollution, overuse, and climate change – endangering biodiversity and the essential services they provide. On this #WorldWetlandsDay we highlight the urgent need for conservation efforts to safeguard these invaluable ecosystems for future generations. Together with our partners, we actively conserve, protect, and restore wetlands. Our efforts contribute to national initiatives like the Save Wetlands Campaign and Amrit Dharohar, ensuring wetlands are sustainably managed for the benefit of both nature and communities. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: 🌍 Contributed to the designation of #RamsarSites, supporting India in reaching its milestone of 75 Ramsar Sites during its 75th year of Independence. 💻 Developed the Wetlands of India Portal, a centralised platform for wetlands data and management across the country.
