  • Delhi infamously steals the spotlight every winter for its pollution levels. However, the story is not much different for other parts of the country. Consistently high pollution levels in other cities like Jaipur, Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai receive less attention in the public discourse and are often ignored. Greenpeace India’s latest report explores the pollution levels in these seven major cities due to Nitrogen dioxide, another pollutant, highlighting its role in exacerbating the air quality and emphasizing on the immediate action that these cities need to take to address the issue. Stay tuned for more details. #AirPollution #CleanAirNow

  • With cars and two-wheelers being major contributors to PM2.5 pollution, the time to invest in public transport is NOW. Fare-free bus schemes for women are more than economic relief—they’re a step toward climate justice. By prioritising buses over car-centric urban planning, we reduce emissions, improve air quality, and make cities more accessible for all. In states like Delhi, women reported feeling safer in public spaces thanks to more women using fare-free buses. These schemes foster economic participation, cleaner air, and a more inclusive future. • India is grappling with its air pollution crisis, and Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) continues to prioritise polluting vehicles over electric vehicles in the country, directly contributing to the #AirPollutionCrisis. This starkly contrasts with its efforts to push EVs in Europe and South Korea. Why the double standards, Hyundai? India deserves cleaner mobility solutions—not outdated, emission-heavy fossil fuel-dependent mobility. It’s time to align your actions in India with your global #Sustainability claims. For context: Hyundai is India's second-largest automaker, holding 14% of the market share. However, its contributions to the electric vehicle (EV) sector in India remain minimal, with EVs accounting for only a tiny fraction of its sales in 2023 and 2024. While Hyundai has made strides in electrification in North America and Europe, its efforts in India are described as lackluster to nearly nonexistent. Its global carbon neutrality roadmap (targeting 2045) lacks specific electrification goals for India and similar emerging markets—why the double standard?

Breaking: Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) has launched its #IPO in #India. It signals the country’s importance to the automaker — but Hyundai’s #CarbonNeutrality efforts in India remain far behind. "#ElectricVehicles accounted for approximately one out of 500 Hyundai vehicles sold in India in 2023 and one in 1000 during the first half of 2024. While Hyundai has made progress on #electrification in North America and Europe, in India the automaker’s progress has stalled."--Hyeran Hong, climate and energy campaigner, Greenpeace East Asia "Hyundai must work towards fostering mobility solutions that reduce emissions, improve accessibility, contribute to India’s broader climate goals, and also tackle air pollution. By doing so, it can play a pivotal role in transforming India’s #transportation landscape for a cleaner and greener future.”--Sharat M.S., climate campaigner, Greenpeace India Learn more>>https://lnkd.in/dhNjNUjn #DriveChange #zeroemissions #SustainableTransportation #ActOnClimate

  • Climate at the Margins: Gender, Caste, and Class Vulnerabilities is a series of engagements exploring sensitive storytelling around the climate crisis. What does effective storytelling look like when considering the many dimensions of climate change? Not limited to, but with a focus on the gendered impact of climate change, this series of engagements will present narratives that go beyond statistics, sharing stories that are more attuned to the human experience of the climate crisis. An accompanying programme of talks, workshops, installations, and more will showcase the diverse, multidisciplinary approaches driving impactful storytelling on climate change. These events have been conceptualised and delivered as part of a collaboration with Greenpeace India. We kick off the weekend with a talk featuring Apekshita Varshney (HeatWatch), Bhumika Saraswati (@heat.southasia), and Nandita Shivakumar, who will discuss the role of documentation, storytelling, and policy advocacy in amplifying these issues. On the 17th, we’ll also be joined by Sabari Venu (Meancurry) for an artist interaction, where he will walk us through the Museum of Memories showcase at the Sasken Digital Gallery. apekshita varshney Bhumika Saraswati @museumofartandphotography #MAPBangalore #ArtMuseum #BangaloreEvents #BangaloreMuseum #ThingsToDoBangalore

  • 🌟 What a powerful day at the launch of our report, "Riding the Justice Route: Free Bus Travel as a Step Toward Gender-Just Public Transport in Delhi"! 🚍💫 On October 29, 2024, we unveiled this year-long study, marking five years of Delhi’s free bus travel scheme for women. Our report dives deep into the positives of the scheme—an 88% increase in women’s ridership, a 75% reduction in monthly expenses, and enabling longer travel distances for work and leisure! The report also highlights the ongoing challenges women face—safety concerns, long waits, overcrowding, and a lack of adequate bus infrastructure. The day unfolded with a heartfelt storytelling session by our community campaigners Deepali and Sunita, sharing the lived experiences of women bus users in Delhi. We also held a photo op at multiple spots in the city, showcasing the voices and energy of our volunteer leaders! 📸💪 We then moved into a panel discussion with experts like Prof Geetam Tiwari, Reena Gupta, Mallika Arya, Alisha Dutta, and MLA Dilip Pandey. The panel discussion focused on how this scheme has been performing, the challenges women face, overall bus infrastructural issues, the way forward, and how incentivizing public transport can help Delhi in fighting climate change, air pollution, congestion, etc. There was widespread support for “Right to Public Transport” and how it can help us fight climate change and make our cities sustainable. In our final session, five women commuters shared their day-to-day experiences and recommendations, making the realities of public transport deeply personal. We closed the event with a soulful performance by the Manzil Mystics, filling the room with hope and unity. 🎶✨ Reena Gupta Mallika Arya Alisha Dutta @officeofdilipkpandey Aakiz Farooq Asmita Nandy Ruchi Varma Stay tuned for more updates. Let's keep the momentum going and move towards a #FareFreeFuture for all! 🌿🚌
