From ₹95,000 Legacy to a ₹16,000 CR Empire: The Journey of John Bissell 🧵🌍 Indian Love: John Bissell arrived in India in 1958 with a Ford Foundation grant. While advising on exports for the Central Cottage Industries Corporation, he fell in love with Indian culture and decided to stay. Big Vision (1960): Seeing untapped potential in village-based industries, John aimed to revive the struggling Indian textile sector. Using his grandmother’s ₹95,000 legacy, he founded Fabindia in 1960. Early Growth: John sought out skilled weavers across Indian villages, finding his first supplier, A.S. Khera, in Panipat. Fabindia began exporting Indian crafts to the world, establishing its early success. Retail Shift (1975): After Habitat became Fabindia’s first customer in 1965, the 1975 emergency forced John to move out of his home. He opened Fabindia’s first retail outlet in Delhi, marking a significant shift in strategy. Brand Identity: Fabindia soon became synonymous with quality Indian fabric, blending modern designs with traditional handlooms. By 1994, a second Delhi outlet was opened, and sales hit ₹12 CR. Diversification: Fabindia expanded beyond textiles, adding organic foods, personal care, and more. By 2007, it became a 100% Indian art brand with 22,000 artisans, reaching ₹200 CR in revenue. Inclusive Model: John launched an inclusive capitalism model, where artisans bought shares, used them for loans, and ensured quality control. The model thrived, empowering artisans and driving growth. Global Reach (2015): With 18 regional companies, 40,000 artisans, and 196 stores, Fabindia expanded globally to Singapore, Bhutan, and Dubai. Valued at ₹5397 CR by 2016, it raised ₹110 CR from Premji Invest. Ready to Grow? Follow us now. #Fabindia #IndianArt #CulturalHeritage #Entrepreneurship

From Chemistry Gold Medalist to a ₹2000 CR Logistics Giant: The Story of Subashish Chakraborty 📦💼 Early Days: Born in Kolkata, Subashish Chakraborty studied Chemistry at Ramakrishna Mission and freelanced at Peerless, a ₹5000 CR Insurance Group. Despite financial constraints, he was determined to succeed. Pivotal Moment (1981): As a gold medalist in Chemistry, Subashish was tasked with managing Peerless operations in South India. Successfully completing the assignment, he realized he could build something for himself. Entrepreneurial Leap: After six years, he quit his job and started a chemical distribution firm. While handling logistics, he discovered a gap in the courier industry and pivoted from chemicals to courier services. Birth of DTDC (1990): Subashish founded DTDC to address the gap between postal services and customer needs. Initially focusing on major cities, he soon expanded to smaller towns. Financial Struggles: Starting with just ₹20,000, Subashish faced challenges in securing loans. He mortgaged his mother’s jewelry, but funds ran out quickly, prompting the need for a new strategy. Franchise Model (1991): Subashish devised a regional franchise model, dividing regions into zones with 30 franchisees each. Providing software for order tracking, the model thrived, laying the foundation for growth. National Expansion: DTDC stabilized in India and expanded to the UK, US, and Dubai. By 2006, it grew to 3700 franchises and raised ₹70 CR from Reliance, becoming a ₹160 CR company with global reach. Major Growth: DTDC secured major clients like Wipro, Infosys, and Tata. By 2010, it expanded to 5000 franchises, covering 10,000 pin codes and reaching 240+ global destinations, with sales hitting ₹450 CR by 2012. 🔑 Ready to Grow?
