These wrinkles can arise during the manufacturing process or due to improper handling and installation. Effects of Wrinkles in the Backsheet 1) Moisture Ingress - Wrinkles can create small gaps or weak points in the backsheet, allowing moisture to penetrate. This moisture ingress can lead to corrosion of the internal components, such as the metal contacts and solder joints, and degrade the solar cells. 2) Reduced Electrical Insulation - The primary function of the backsheet is to provide electrical insulation. Wrinkles can compromise this insulation, increasing the risk of short circuits and electrical faults. 3) Mechanical Stress - Wrinkles can act as stress concentrators, leading to mechanical failure over time. This stress can cause cracks in the solar cells or the encapsulant, reducing the panel's overall durability and lifespan. 4) Hot Spots - Uneven surfaces due to wrinkles can lead to localized heating or hot spots, which can further degrade the solar cells and encapsulant. This localized heating can reduce the efficiency of the panel and potentially cause safety issues. 5) Performance Degradation - Wrinkles can cause uneven stress distribution and affect the encapsulant’s ability to protect the cells properly, leading to performance degradation over time. Causes of Wrinkles in the Backsheet 1) Lamination Problems: Inadequate or uneven lamination pressure and temperature control can lead to the formation of wrinkles. 2) Material Handling: Improper handling of the backsheet material during manufacturing can cause wrinkles.
