Wet waste or the so-called Organic waste can easily be converted into compost and added back into the soil. However , the vegetable waste or food waste contains cellulose and other compounds that can be broken down under anaerobic conditions in the presence of heat . The products of the process are moisture, methane , carbon dioxide , Hydrogen sulphide and undigested liquid commonly called slurry (The super fertilizer) . The most important ingredient for this process is the bacteria required to breakdown the waste . Cow Dung is very rich in this bacteria. A cow dung slurry is a beautiful medium for this anaerobic process. The resultant gas can be scrubbed of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide and used as cooking gas . The process is done in a simple FRP drum with a floating dome to trap the gas. A pressure block is used to pressurise the gas . In theory , LPG is not required if we have enough supply of vegetable waste or cow dung . Here is a recent installation of a small scale bio gas plant . In our opinion, we need simple solutions to address #sustainability.
