To further enhance learning, these educators participated in an interactive workshop, exploring innovative ways to bring experiments to life in their classrooms. For the teachers, these kits were more than just tools—they were a way to spark curiosity and make science real for young minds. They were excited to shared how practical experiments could transform the way children understand concepts, making learning exciting and memorable. With Ellucian’s support, this effort is helping schools shift to a more interactive, experience-driven approach to science education. But for 3,994 students across 10 government schools in GCC Chennai, this is changing. Many are getting their first real experience with practical experiments—helping them connect theory to real life, sparking curiosity, and building confidence to pursue science in future. Thanks to UST’s support, these students can now engage with science beyond textbooks with the help of ILP's Science Kits. Aligned with Tamil Nadu Samacheer Kalvi standards for grades 5–10, the kits include over 200 experiments in physics, chemistry, and biology, making learning more interactive and meaningful. The government schools in Tamil Nadu are part of Namma School Namma Ooru Palli, a Department of School Education,Govt of TN initiative designed to foster community engagement and CSR partnerships to uplift government schools. Worried about the increasing frequency of forest fires and their devastating impact, these young minds used basic materials from their ILP science kits—like bi-metallic strip switches, batteries, and sensors—to design an early warning system. The device detects fire risks in real time, allowing for quicker responses to prevent widespread damage. What’s inspiring is how these students turned a classroom project into a practical solution for a real-world problem. A simple reminder that innovation doesn’t always need complex tools—just curiosity, determination, and a desire to make a difference. ILP congratulates the students for winning second prize at the district Science Fair for this project. Truly inspiring to see young minds protecting our planet! This initiative, supported by SRM IST Chennai Institute of Science and Technology under its PRAGYA program, was a blend of science, innovation, and social responsibility, driven by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Centre for Electric Mobility. The Science Fair had clear goals: to introduce IoT-based solutions for real-world challenges, train students in areas like health monitoring, smart irrigation, and assistive technologies, and spark scientific curiosity through hands-on learning. The event brought science to life for students, with interactive IoT training sessions, engaging demonstrations, and fun activities. Each school received three custom IoT kits developed by SRMIST students: a Health Monitoring System, a Smart Irrigation System, and a Smart Stick for the Visually Challenged. The program was met with overwhelming appreciation from both the students and the faculty. As a fitting conclusion, a hackathon will be held at SRM, where students will apply their newfound skills to solve real-world problems, fostering creativity and innovation. This initiative wasn’t just about teaching technology—it was about inspiring the next generation of innovators to dream big and solve tomorrow’s challenges. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Guru Krupa Foundation Inc. for their steadfast support in making STEM education accessible and impactful for young learners. The participating schools are part of Namma School Namma Ooru Palli, a Government of Tamil Nadu initiative fostering community engagement and CSR partnerships to uplift government schools.
