Uniting businesses, governments, NGOs and citizens to create a circular plastics economy in India

About us

Launched in 2021, the India Plastics Pact, a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) initiative, is a voluntary business initiative that brings together stakeholders from across the plastics value chain. The Pact, through its four ambitious and time-bound targets, aims to create a circular economy for plastic packaging in India. Signatories of the Pact commit to achieving the below targets by 2030. Target 1: Define a list of unnecessary or problematic plastic packaging and items and take measures to address them through redesign and innovation Target 2: 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable Target 3: 50% plastic packaging to be effectively recycled Target 4: 25% average recycled content across all plastic packaging Managed by CII, the Pact is the first of its kind in Asia and joins the Global Plastics Pact Network with 12 other national and regional Plastics Pact. Currently, 53 organisations are part of the India Plastics Pact, working on all plastic resins at all stages of the plastics value chain. In the coming year, the Pact aims to focus its work on films and flexible packaging, reuse business models, citizen behaviour/attitudes, and much more.
