#LokSabha suspended proceedings for a 2nd day today (Nov 27) after disruptions by lawmakers demanding a discussion of the US indictment of billionaire #GautamAdani. #RahulGandhi said Gautam Adani should be arrested. "The gentleman has been indicted in US ... and the govt is protecting him," Gandhi told reporters outside parliament. The govt has made no comment on the indictment and #BJP has distanced itself from the controversy. BJP has no reason to defend Gautam Adani, a spokesperson said, adding that the party was not against industrialists, but rather considered them partners in nation-building efforts. "Let him defend himself," the spokesperson, Gopal Krishna Agarwal said on Nov 26, adding that the law would take its own course in case of wrong-doing. On Nov 27, #AdaniGreen, the company at the center of the indictment, said Gautam Adani had been charged in the US for alleged violations of securities law and faced potential fines but had not been charged under the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

For residents of #Kwath, a remote village on a mountain top accessible only through foot, a call from the #Army is not out of the ordinary since each side depends on the other. That’s why when 4 men from the village got a call on Nov 20, asking them to report to the #Armycamp at Chas, they didn’t hesitate to go. Neither did the villagers think much of it. But when the men did not return by evening, the #village turned anxious and a search began. When Irshad Ahmad, a carpenter and resident of the village, turned up at the gates of Army camp, he saw the 4 men allegedly “dumped outside”, unable to move. Villagers claim the men were asked if they had seen any militants in their village. The residents said they have no grudges with the Army but want action against those who allegedly tortured the men. A #police officer called the incident an “aberration” but said it should not have happened. “If they wanted to question the men, they should have called us,” he said. “It could have turned into a major issue if senior officers had not intervened.” Click on the 🔗 below to read the full story 👇🏽 https://lnkd.in/gD4Zi-7k

Even after 7 decades of #Independence, the gendered writing of our #history and popular narratives present only men as the architects of our #Constitution. However, the 299-member Constituent Assembly had a bright set of 15 women who came from diverse backgrounds and endured patriarchy, caste oppression, child marriage and widowhood. Despite being on the receiving end of distasteful comments from several Constituency Assembly members, these #women spoke their minds and played a crucial role in scripting the sovereign and secular republic of #India. 🇮🇳 Click on the 🔗 below to read about them in detail 👇🏽 https://lnkd.in/gizhkhAS

The #cow has had an intriguing presence in the Indian psyche. There are mentions of devotion to cows appearing in #Hindu scriptures, even though there is evidence to suggest that complete abstinence from #beef eating did not exist in the ancient Indian way of life. But the clause to prohibit the slaughter of cows in the #Constitution has been a matter of intense controversy and debate since the new republic was formed, and more so in recent years. ✍🏽: Adrija Roychowdhury Click on the 🔗 below to read in detail how the cow came to be debated in Constituent Assembly 👇🏽 https://lnkd.in/gxTAFc5w
