India’s clean energy revolution is gaining momentum. With bold interim targets—reducing GDP emissions intensity by 45% (from 2005 levels), achieving 50% of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources, and creating a 2.5–3 billion tonne CO₂ carbon sink by 2030—the Government of India is paving the way for a transformative energy transition. But setting targets alone is not enough, it demands a strong domestic manufacturing ecosystem. That is where Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) comes in. A robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem can reduce import dependence, secure supply chains, and position India as a global clean tech manufacturing hub. Beyond driving industrial growth, this will boost economic resilience, create jobs, and ensure long-term energy security. The Bharat Climate Forum 2025 is set to catalyse these efforts by convening policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and global partners. This forum will drive discussions, foster innovation, and build partnerships that align India’s net-zero ambitions with its vision for sustainable development, inclusive growth, and clean tech leadership. A key highlight of the event will be a panel discussion on bioenergy and its role in nature conservation and climate action, moderated by our CEO, Swapan Mehra. This critical conversation will explore how bioenergy can reduce carbon footprints while supporting ecosystems and livelihoods—an area for innovation and impact. This forum is more than just an event—it’s a defining moment for India to demonstrate its leadership in clean tech and climate action. Stay tuned for updates from the Bharat Climate Forum 2025, where critical conversations and ideas that will shape India’s path to a Net-Zero and Viksit Bharat! Did you know that birds can sense the Earth's magnetic field to navigate thousands of miles across the globe? As you can probably tell, for #TeamIora, birds hold a very special place in our hearts. Today, on National Bird Day and World Migratory Bird Day, we celebrate these incredible winged travelers! This past year our team travelled across Rajasthan, and they were lucky enough to see some spectacular birds. The state has some very rich birding sites and diverse landscapes, and stands as one of the most important migratory bird hotspots in India. From vibrant wetlands to vast grasslands, the state is a haven for not just migratory birds but also some stunning resident species. The team got to document stunning birds as part of our biodiversity inventory across three pastureland sites – Govardhanpura, Motipura, and Gadiya. Commissioned by ITC Limited under their Mission Sunehra Kal initiative, the project focuses on habitat restoration and biodiversity conservation. Through this collaboration, we are not only documenting the rich birdlife of Rajasthan but also guiding habitat restoration efforts. While documenting these birds, we also witnessed the impact of climate change on their migratory paths. Temperature shifts, changing rainfall patterns and habitat loss is not just concerning for the birds themselves but also for the ecosystems that rely on them as vital pollinators, seed dispersers, and contributors to nutrient cycling. By monitoring and protecting their habitats, we can help mitigate the impacts of climate change and ensure that future generations will have the privilege of experiencing the wonder of birds. Catch a glimpse of Rajasthan’s stunning birdlife and get in touch with our experts to learn about how you can also contribute towards safeguarding their future! The COP16 Colombia saw the launch of the high integrity #BiodiversityCredits #Framework. The framework is designed to encourage local markets and contexts, support high quality MRV and provide guidance to various countries to launch markets and initiatives to substantially enhance capital and investments for biodiversity conservation and restoration. Very proud to be part of the International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits and to have contributed to the development of this framework. The effort that has gone in to synthesize global best practices, lessons and experiences of members representing such considerable expertise from around the world and of the many reviewers- in such record time- has been truly remarkable! Looking forward to the next phase of the panel as we roll our the framework and work with host countries, corporate investors, INGOs, multilateral agencies and financial institutions to mainstream the use of biodiversity credits. MoEF&CC Iora Ecological Solutions VERTIVER Dame Amelia Fawcett DBE, CVO Sylvie Goulard
Another full room for biodiversity credits ! Last week, we organised an event at COP16 Colombia to celebrate the launch of our #Framework for high integrity #BiodiversityCredits markets 🇨🇴 As our co-chairs Dame Amelia Fawcett DBE, CVO and Sylvie Goulard said: « No market can develop without integrity. No biodiversity credit markets can develop without rules. » This event was not only an opportunity for our co-chairs to present the Framework, but also to gather our Panel members to discuss the results of more than a year's worth of work. We also had the chance to have opening remarks from the British and French Ministers Agnès Pannier-Runacher and Mary Creagh CBE MP. The objectives of the Framework are three-fold: channelling funds into biodiversity, shifting business towards Nature-positive behaviour and securing fair rewards for Nature’s stewards. It has been informed by a multitude of views from experts in various fields, including finance, corporates, NGOs, Indigenous Peoples and local communities. It is a key milestone for biodiversity credit markets to develop with high integrity, as the Framework and the notion of ‘high integrity’ it relies on, have both reached a consensus ! The Framework is adopted by all IAPB Panel members 🦋 This event was also a moment to discuss the future of biodiversity credit markets with Ambroise Fayolle, antoine sire, Franz Tattenbach and Patricia Zurita. Among ideas, they highlighted: 🔧 The need to create a platform and share knowledge and lessons learned 👨⚖️ The importance of governments in developing biodiversity credit markets and ensuring trust. 🍀 That trust also requires credibility and standards, which will be aided by our Framework 🤝 The role of partnerships and collaboration with development banks 🌹The importance of the social value of biodiversity credit projects for local communities in particular If you want to learn more about the Framework: https://lnkd.in/emsATgDU Thank you to all participants! Marking a pivotal moment in the global fight against climate change and loss of natural ecosystems, the 2024 COPs were a call to action: bold climate goals (UN Climate Change), tackling land degradation (UN Convention to Combat Desertification), and safeguarding biological diversity (CBD). Governments, stakeholders, and grassroots voices came together, making ambitious commitments and inclusive policies to address our planet's most pressing challenges. As the stakes rise, so does the determination for a sustainable future. Though the road ahead demands action, not just promises. Did the COPs achieve this? As we move forward, let’s take a moment to reflect on the key milestones achieved at the COPs, the progress made in climate action, and the growing understanding of the importance of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in addressing the environmental challenges of our time. At Iora, we are committed to turning COP principles into action. Through innovative NbS, we align with global climate goals to create tangible, real-world impacts. Together, we can turn the promises of the COPs into action that helps build a thriving, resilient planet for future generations. #COP2024 #ClimateAction #UNFCCC #UNCCD #CBD #COPsForChange #NaturebasedSolutions #GlobalClimateMovement
