This year, Joyya brought the magic back to the community surrounding our main operational facility with a carnival to remember! Over 150 children and 60 women joined in the fun—no age limits, just pure joy! From balloon popping to archery, basketball to scooter rides—there were nine amazing stations to explore. It was wonderful to see kids laughing on trampolines, women posing in fancy costumes for instant photos, and faces lighting up with creative face paint. And yes, there was ring-on-the-bottle, digital games, and more. For a community that’s always on the go, this carnival was a moment to pause. To play. To just be. For one day, worries stayed at the gate. But the best part? Watching the women take charge! They invited their friends, cheered each other on, and then dived into the fun—jumping on trampolines, dancing like no one was watching, and laughing without a care. You could almost see the stress lifting off their shoulders, replaced by smiles that reached their eyes. The children of the community especially those who are Nepali are mostly confined to the four walls of their homes. For them, this carnival was more than just games—it was a glimpse into a bigger, brighter world. Hesitant faces turned into radiant grins as they explored, played, and discovered a whole new side of life. The Carnival wasn’t just about games or activities. It was about community. About connection. About rediscovering joy—together. Waking up to a glowing review from the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary feels like a WOW moment! We’re really honored to partner with them. To give some context to the t-shirts: On November 6, 2024, the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary made history by welcoming 56 tuatara to their new home in a 3.7-hectare, mouse-free enclosure. These ancient reptiles were accompanied by representatives from Ngāti Koata, the kaitiaki of the Tuatara from Takapourewa/Stephens Island. Why is this so important? Well, tuatara—like many of New Zealand’s native creatures—are threatened by habitat loss and introduced predators. They had been extinct on the mainland, with the last populations confined to just 32 offshore islands. Until now! The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary has become the first sanctuary to release tuatara back into the wild in a safe, predator-free environment, and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of this amazing journey.
