𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁-𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗡𝗢𝗪! Every significant shift in content consumption has an outset; for short-form video (SFV), it was TikTok. It didn’t just change how we consume content, it also totally democratized the content creator—it rewired our attention spans for the 10-20-30-second thrill. When TikTok exited the Indian market in 2020, platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Moj, Josh, and others stepped in, filling the void—they created something much bigger than TikTok itself. I recently had the opportunity to discuss this with Ubaid Zargar for a fun piece in afaqs!, where we explored some interesting trends, it's not that it hasn't already been happening but it's seeing a larger growth crescendo: 👉 Influencers are prioritizing short-form videos (SFV), firstly because it's easier to make it and also as platforms reward this format with disproportionately high reach and engagement, often surpassing their follower counts. 👉 Brands are increasingly using influencer-led SFV content as advertisements, taking advantage of organic reach and engagement. 👉 The practice of repurposing influencer content as ad units, which began during the pandemic due to budget constraints, has now become a common and effective marketing strategy. One thing is clear: SFV offers the salient choice for reach and engagement, often outperforming the prior traditional formats within Instagram and YouTube. 2025 is all about agility, creativity, and authenticity. Authenticity though is a tricky one but more on that later! SFV isn't the future—it’s already the present!
