“India has the highest number of deaths due to breast cancer, and 1 in 25 women in metro cities has a chance of developing it,” said Dr. MANDAR Nadkarni on our podcast. Dr. Nadkarni has been a surgical oncologist for over 20 years and is the Head of Breast Oncology at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai. Our conversation addresses many common questions about breast cancer that will help you detect and prevent breast cancer early on in your loved ones. Here is what we discussed: ⤍ Most cancer patients blame themselves for their illness, but cancer often has multiple causes. It's important to provide emotional support and help them understand it's not their fault. ⤍ Women who breastfeed for 6 months to 1 year have a lesser chance of developing breast cancer than the rest. ⤍ Breast cancer deaths in India are high because many people skip early checkups, allowing the cancer to progress from stage 1 to stage 3/ 4. ⤍ Breast cancer isn't limited to women; men can get it too. For every 200 women diagnosed, 1 man is diagnosed with it. ⤍ You can lower the risk of breast cancer by eating simple, healthy home-cooked meals, exercising for 45 minutes five days a week, and avoiding alcohol and smoking. That’s all I had for you today! We also discussed: ⏩ How is breast cancer caused ⏩ What are the early signs and how to do self-examination ⏩ What increases the chances of breast cancer? ⏩ Can women have babies post-breast cancer? ⏩ Common myths and facts around breast cancer Watch the entire podcast here: https://lnkd.in/dvFbrx5d P.S.
