Our largest air defence contract to date – NASAMS and NOMADS deliveries to the Netherlands 🤝✅ Thrilled to announce that we have signed a contract with the government of the Netherlands for the delivery of NASAMS and NOMADS air defence systems. The contract, valued at about NOK 12 billion, marks the largest air defence contract in KONGSBERG's history. The contract was signed on 21 November, following the previous announcement when the Dutch government filed a recommendation to Parliament, outlining its intention to acquire the new systems as part of the #CITADEL programme. “By selecting NASAMS and NOMADS the Netherlands will enhance its air defence capabilities with an integrated system that covers short- and medium range threats. The Netherlands continues to be a strong and integral member of the larger NASAMS user community, and we are pleased to welcome the country as the first international NOMADS user,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Enhancing NASAMS air defence capacity In collaboration with Forsvarsmateriell - Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA), we have have signed an agreement to double the spare parts package for the new NASAMS air defence system. This agreement ensures that the latest NASAMS systems can be operated safely, efficiently, and with expanded capacity. “NASAMS is of strategic importance to Norway. The air defence system provides a strong deterrent. Increasing the stock of components enhances operational endurance and strengthens readiness. This is a crucial step to ensure the long-term effectiveness of our air defence capabilities,” says Brigadier General Jarle Nergård, Head of NDMA Air Systems Division. Throughout 2024, we have finalised contracts with NDMA for two batteries of the latest-generation NASAMS, pre-ordered long-lead components, and secured new missile acquisitions through the US government. "Unthinkable to defend Ukraine without it" Air defence is absolutely vital to counter the ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine. “Some attacks have been so intense that we’ve run out of ammunition and had to reload while missiles were flying overhead,” says NASAMS operator Andrey, speaking to Forsvarets forum. While Andrey cannot share specific details about their operations, he highlights mobility as one of the system’s greatest strengths. Mobility not only ensures the system can be used to its full potential but also reduces the risk of equipment being destroyed – or the operators themselves coming under harm. Andrey and his team have one primary mission: to protect critical infrastructure for Ukraine’s armed forces. “NASAMS has proven to be an outstanding air defence system. Its greatest advantage is its mobility, which significantly increases the equipment’s survivability.
