  • Thermocol is an expanded polystyrene (EPS), a type of plastic used for the majority of items, from product packaging to disposable plates and cutlery. Due to its unique property of more surface area and light weight. It is not picked by rag pickers as it fetches less per kilogram pricing and hence is not recycled properly. It ends up getting dumped in landfills causing marine pollution and clogging drainage thus causing flooding. Sometimes they are also burnt leaving toxins in the air thus reducing air quality & increasing air pollution. Thermocol tableware can be easily replaced by disposable and compostable tableware. The materials used are plant-based or leaf-based; for instance, sugarcane bagasse is used to make plates. There are a few really interesting startups and organisations that have created disposable products in this category, and we are listing them below. EcoSoul Home Inc. qudrat Anya Exports

  • In 2020, 158.10 million people in the U.S. used disposable razors — that number is supposed to increase to 160.16 million in 2024. Though not categorized as “single-use,” billions of plastic razors end up in landfills each year. Disposable Razors are focussed on linear economy of use & throw, while we need alternatives which follow circular economy principles. Good alternatives to plastic razors are metal razors which are your old fashioned double side razors. Bamboo razors also help reduce plastic waste by using easy to decompose bamboo handles.
